Syracuse football at UConn: How to watch, odds, all-time series, QB1, depth chart & Calvin Russell

Syracuse football, fresh off a bye week, is back to business as the Orange heads to UConn in a non-conference battle on Saturday afternoon.

The 'Cuse (1-2 overall) has dropped two straight games, including its most recent 14-point setback at Pittsburgh. The Huskies, an independent in football, are 2-2 overall and fell by three points at Miami (Ohio) this past Saturday.

UConn has a new head coach in former Toledo boss Jason Candle, and he's obviously quite familiar with SU defensive coordinator and former Rockets' DC Vince Kehres, along with some Toledo players who transferred to the 'Cuse in the offseason.

Also, former Orange associate head coach and quarterbacks coach Nunzio Campanile is in his first season as the Huskies' offensive coordinator, while former SU wide receiver Emanuel Ross is a sophomore at UConn.

Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown, meanwhile, said at his weekly press conference on Monday that fifth-year player Steve Angeli, who has struggled in the Orange's two latest losses, will start at quarterback, although Brown added that senior Amari Odom is also likely to get some reps, too.

Hopefully, the bye week has allowed Angeli and the entire roster to rest and regroup. One area where Syracuse football must vastly improve is in the penalty department, as the 'Cuse currently leads the country in penalties per game and penalty yards per game.

How to watch Syracuse football at UConn.

The Orange and the Huskies are scheduled to kick off at noon on October 3 from Rentschler Field in Storrs, Conn., with television coverage on the CBS Sports Network. At the time of this writing, FanDuel had Syracuse football as a 6.5-point betting favorite, with the over/under set at 50.5 points.

In their all-time series together, per SU Athletics, the 'Cuse is 8-6 against UConn. The teams have played each of the past two years, with both games at the JMA Wireless Dome, and Syracuse football prevailing by just a touchdown in each non-conference bout.

Here is the Orange's projected depth chart for Saturday's contest. One name on there that will jazz up the SU fan base is freshman wide receiver Calvin Russell III, the program's highest-ranked commit in more than two decades.

Russell hasn't played in a game yet for the 'Cuse after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in late March amid spring practices. When asked on Monday how much Russell would play at UConn, Brown said, "As much as possible, as much as his body allows him and as much as our training room says he can."
