Syracuse football continues to see its intriguing 2026 class grow.

In recent days, the Orange, under head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff, has received at least two verbal pledges from talented multi-positional athletes in the high school junior cycle.

One of those prospects is three-star EShawn Sutton. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Sutton, out of Winter Park High School in Winter Park, Fla., says on his X page that he plays running back, safety and wide receiver.

Also recently giving a verbal commitment to the 'Cuse is Darnell Stokes Jr. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Stokes, who reportedly can suit up at wide receiver or defensive back, is out of Indian River High School in Dagsboro, Del.

Per media reports and recruiting services, both Sutton and Stokes have visited the Orange program. A huge congrats and welcome from 'Cuse Nation to EShawn and Darnell!

Syracuse football is building a solid 2026 class that keeps expanding.

When I wrote this article, the Orange had at least 11 verbal pledges in its 2026 cycle. Currently, Rivals.com has this 'Cuse class at No. 16 around the country, while it is No. 14 via the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Here's a geographic breakdown of the Syracuse football 2026 cycle to date:
Florida: Four prospects
Delaware: Three prospects
California: One prospect
Pennsylvania: One prospect
Maryland: One prospect
New Jersey: One prospect

Brown and his staff remain focused on the Northeast corridor with their recruiting efforts. That includes New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Delaware, the Philadelphia market, and the Baltimore to Washington, D.C., corridor, among other areas.

At the same time, Syracuse football coaches are recruiting other states extremely hard, and faring well, I might add. These states include Florida, California, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee and Ohio, among others, along with Canada.

Beyond its verbal commitments so far, the Orange staff remains heavily in the mix for numerous four-star targets in the 2026 class. Those recruits include quarterback Gavin Sidwar of La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, Pa., wide receiver Calvin Russell of Miami Northwestern Senior High School, defensive lineman James Johnson of North Fort Myers High School in North Fort Myers, Fla., defensive back CJ Hester of Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Fla., defensive back Ayden Pouncey, who also attends Winter Park High School, and wide receiver Messiah Hampton of James Monroe High School in Rochester, N.Y.

Needless to say, it's exciting what the 'Cuse has brewing among high school juniors, and national analysts, lately, have praised Syracuse football coaches for the success with their 2026 class.
