The end of Syracuse football’s disappointing 2025 football season is almost here. But first, we meet our old friends, the Boston College Eagles. Just as we predicted before the season, the Eagles have had a rough season as well. Unfortunately, there are no bowl games on the line for either team. Other than not finishing last in the ACC power rankings, there is nothing at stake in this game. However, we should still learn more about Syracuse’s final opponent of the season.
Where is Boston College ranked?
The Eagles are not ranked, although they did make a recent appearance in ESPN’s Bottom 10 teams, as they are just 1-10 heading into the final week of the season.
Where is Boston College in the standings?
Boston College is currently at the bottom of the ACC standings. They are the only one of the league’s 17 teams that has yet to win a conference game.
What did Boston College do last week?
The Eagles had a bye last week, giving them extra rest before their trip to Syracuse. The previous week, Boston College lost 36-34 to Georgia Tech despite leading the game 28-17 at the start of the fourth quarter. It was BC’s closest and most devastating loss of the season.
Who is Boston College’s quarterback?
The Eagles are led by sophomore Dylan Lonergan. After spending two seasons as a backup at Alabama, Lonergan transferred to Chestnut Hill and won the starting job this season. However, he was benched in mid-October in favor of senior Grayson James. But an injury to James against Notre Dame has put Lonergan back on the field late in the season.

Who are Boston College’s other stars?
It’s tough to find any standout players on one of college football’s worst teams. Running back Turbo Richard has turned in a fine season, scoring seven touchdowns on the ground while averaging five yards per carry. Lewis Bond leads the way among BC receivers with 839 yards on 81 catches, although it’s Reed Harris who leads the team with five receiving touchdowns.
What is Boston College’s biggest flaw?
Needless to say, the Eagles have flaws all over the field. It starts with the offensive line, which has allowed 36 sacks in 11 games and has failed to pave the way for a rushing attack that ranks 128th nationally. Likewise, the Boston College defense ranks 128th nationally, giving up 34.6 points per game. Somehow, Cal and Notre Dame are the only two FBS teams that have failed to score at least 30 points against Boston College. Of course, Syracuse now ranks 129th nationally in defense after the 70 points the Orange gave up against Notre Dame.
How does Syracuse beat Boston College?
Coming off one of the worst losses in program history, the biggest key to victory for the Orange is simply effort. Does Syracuse want to play this game and close out a disappointing season with a win? This is particularly true for the Orange defense, which didn’t take the field last week until it was 21-0, leaving them with no opportunity to keep Syracuse competitive.

Even when the season was falling apart, the Syracuse defense did enough to keep the Orange competitive with Pitt, North Carolina, and Miami, at least for a half. If the Orange defense can put forth a strong effort, it will give the offense a fighting chance to get something going against a lackluster Boston College defense. Ultimately, we should expect a low-scoring slugfest, which gives Syracuse a chance. In the end, the team that wants it more will likely find a way to win.
