Quante Gillians, a 2025 three-star defensive lineman, was a late recruiting target for Syracuse football. The Rochester, N.Y., native and Aquinas Institute attendee didn't receive his offer until May 22 of 2024 - after 17 schools, including Pittsburgh, West Virginia, SMU, and Michigan State. Less than a month later, Syracuse got his verbal commitment with all the recruiting momentum in the world.

Gillians' recruitment has remained quiet since. He cancelled a visit to Michigan State after committing, although that's changed recently. Gillians received an offer from the University of Michigan in mid-September. Shortly after, Gillans and Michigan set up a visit - scheduled for Saturday's rivalry game against Michigan State.

Unlike previously reported, the upcoming visit will be more than just a game visit - Gillians will now be taking an official visit to Michigan, as announced by TheCuseJuice on X (formerly Twitter).

In a previous interview with Gillians, TheCuseJuice reported the defensive lineman will visit for both the Virginia Tech and Miami games. That has since changed, but Gillians will still attend for one of the games. If he can't make it to Virginia Tech on November 2nd, he will be in attendance for the season-finale against Miami on November 30th.

With that, I don't think Michigan is the frontrunner for Gillians - although they are definitely a contender to get the flip from Syracuse. Gillians has been very active on social media with Syracuse targets, including this comment on October 21 as Wydeek Collier, a 2026 three-star athlete, included the Orange in his top five.

I think this will be a two-team race and will go all the way to signing day in December. I still have Syracuse, aided by the proximity to home, upward trajectory of the program (compared to Michigan in a downturn), and the coaching staff, to hold through in the end. Still, I could see Gillians flipping to the Maize and Blue.

As of writing, I could not find an analyst prediction on where Gillians will end up from 247Sports, Rivals, or On3. Interestingly enough though, On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) has SMU as a heavy favorite - 53.0% to flip Gillians. I highly doubt that however, as the RPM thinks Buffalo (4.2%) is more likely than Syracuse (3.6%) to secure the commitment.

Quante Gillians is a consensus three-star and top-six player in New York, a priority of first-year head coach Fran Brown with nine Empire State commits in 2025. The 247Sports Composite ranks Gillians as the 924th-best recruit, nationally, the 101st defensive lineman, and the fourth-best in New York. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Gillians projects as a defensive end in a four-man front.
