Among the high school prospects that the Syracuse basketball staff checked out last weekend, amid an NCAA-permitted live period on the AAU circuits, was the younger brother of former Duke star and sensational NBA rookie Kon Knueppel.
The new Orange staff, this past weekend, watched 2027 four-star power forward Kager Knueppel from Wisconsin, who is a fast-rising national prospect in the high school junior class, according to recruiting analysts.

Last summer, after the 2027 contact period opened and college coaches could start communicating directly with players in this cycle, the 6-foot-9 Knueppel heard from the 'Cuse staff, which at that time was led by head coach Adrian Autry.
Now, Gerry McNamara is the Orange's head coach, and his staff is also showing an interest in Knueppel, who is a top-80 national prospect in the 2027 class. It's unclear if McNamara and his assistants have formally offered a scholarship to Knueppel; however, it wouldn't be a surprise if he does, ultimately, score a 'Cuse offer.
This spring and summer in grassroots hoops, Knueppel is competing for the 17U squad of the Milwaukee-based Team Herro in Nike's EYBL league. He's also a standout at Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee.
Syracuse basketball coaches are ramping up their 2027 recruiting efforts.
To date, Knueppel's scholarship offer sheet includes teams such as Duke, Purdue, Wisconsin, Toledo, DePaul, Michigan, Texas A&M and Butler. Within the 2027 class, his highest national ranking comes courtesy of Rivals, which has Knueppel at No. 51 overall.
Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking place him in the top 80 nationally. Knueppel is also a top-15 forward in this cycle.
Last weekend, amid the live period, the EYBL circuit held a spring session in Memphis, Tenn. As Team Herro went 4-0 in Memphis, Knueppel averaged 15.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest while connecting on 57.9 percent from the field, 45.0 percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.
The EYBL's next session will be this coming weekend, from May 22 to May 25, in Kansas City, Mo.
As a junior in the 2025-26 season, Knueppel helped lead Wisconsin Lutheran to a 30-0 overall record, a No. 8 national ranking per MaxPreps and the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association ("WIAA") Division 1 state title.
According to MaxPreps, as a junior, Knueppel averaged 16.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.8 blocks per game while making 58 percent from the field, 43 percent from the perimeter and 88 percent from the charity stirpe.
