Add another fellow Empire State crew to Syracuse basketball's non-conference schedule in the upcoming 2026-27 season under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara.
The Orange will welcome Canisius, a Metro Conference member in Buffalo, N.Y., to the JMA Wireless Dome on Wednesday, Dec. 16, as first reported by the Web site nunesmagician.com.
Canisius went 10-21 overall in the 2025-26 campaign and 5-15 in conference play. In their all-time series together, per SU Athletics, Syracuse basketball is 47-24 against the Golden Griffins. The teams first played one another in the 1944-45 season.
Most recently, in November 2023, the Orange knocked off Canisius, 89-77, on the Hill in the early stages of the 2023-24 campaign. Sophomore point guard Judah Mintz led the SU charge with 26 points, including 19 in the second half at the Dome.

In the 2026-27 season, the 'Cuse is expected to have 14 non-conference games and 18 Atlantic Coast Conference contests. Reports have suggested that the Orange will likely host Cornell, another Central New York foe. If that happens, this would give SU 12 of its 14 non-conference encounters, with only two remaining.
McNamara and his assistants, so far, have put together a non-conference schedule that includes five games against power conference teams, with four of those being neutral-site dates and one being a true road affair, at Oklahoma in the annual ACC/SEC Challenge.
