Syracuse basketball freshman wing Aaron Womack III from Wisconsin plans to enter the transfer portal, according to a report from Donna Ditota of Syracuse.com.
I'm wishing Aaron nothing but great success moving forward. The decision by the 6-foot-6, 170-pound Womack isn't a surprise. He was recruited by the former Orange coaching staff, including former head coach Adrian Autry, who was fired last month after SU finished its 2025-26 season at 15-17 overall.
Last week, Siena head coach Gerry McNamara, another 'Cuse alum, was named as the Orange's next head coach, replacing his former boss, Autry. The transfer portal will open on April 7 and run through April 21.
McNamara had conversations with members of the team's 2025-26 roster last week, and those discussions continue this week, as he determines roster retention efforts for next season.
Aaron Womack III, a freshman wing, plans to transfer out of Syracuse basketball.
Womack took a redshirt this past campaign and will have four seasons of collegiate eligibility remaining. His dad, Aaron Womack Jr., told Syracuse.com that his son "loved the journey" at SU. "He loved the coaches. Everybody was professional. Everybody was top-notch," Womack Jr. said.
Aaron Womack III came to the Hill as a three-star prospect in the 2025 class. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite placed him at No. 349 nationally in his cycle. Womack had a tremendous career at Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wis., near Milwaukee.
In the 2025-26 stanza, Syracuse basketball had 13 main scholarship players. Three have exhausted their collegiate eligibility, while up to 10 of them could have potentially returned next season. Womack's departure was expected, and I anticipate at least several other 2025-26 players will enter the transfer portal, too.
On the women's side, Syracuse freshman forward Justus Fitzgerald announced on her Instagram page that she plans to enter the portal as well. The 6-foot-1 Fitzgerald, from Roswell, Ga., near Atlanta, appeared in 11 games this past term, averaging 7.6 minutes, 2.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while making 50.0 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the free-throw line.
In 2025-26, Syracuse women's basketball went 24-9 overall and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The transfer portal in women's hoops will be open from April 6 to April 20.
