Syracuse basketball is among a ton of schools that are showing an interest in 2027 four-star shooting guard Kamari Whyte from New York City, according to a recent post on X from recruiting analyst Jake Lieberman.

The 6-foot-3 Whyte is a fast-rising prospect in the rising high school senior class. In the 2025-26 campaign, he was a standout at the Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vt. As a junior, he averaged 21.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.2 assists per game and was named the Gatorade player of the year in Vermont.

Whyte previously played at the St. Raymond High School for Boys in the Bronx, N.Y. In his senior season, he will suit up for the Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J., which is the home of former long-time SU recruiting target Deron Rippey Jr., a 2026 five-star point guard who is headed to Duke.

On the AAU circuits, Whyte is a standout for the 17U team of the New York City-based New Heights in the Adidas 3SSB league. So far in the current AAU season, New Heights is 8-0 while Whyte is averaging 16.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals per contest.

Per recruiting services, Whyte's scholarship offers sheet includes Villanova, Marquette, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Florida International, Rhode Island, East Carolina and UAB. Undeniably, his offer list is going to grow, and I would love to see the new Orange staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara offer a scholarship to Whyte.

Within the 2027 class, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite places him at No. 89 overall, No. 10 at shooting guard and No. 2 in New Jersey. Over at 247Sports, Whyte is No. 98 nationally, No. 14 at shooting guard and No. 2 in New Jersey.

Based on his performances on the 3SSB circuit in recent months, along with other showcase events, analysts and scouts say that Whyte should continue to have offers pour in while his 2027 national rankings soar.

Recently, McNamara and his assistants have ramped up their recruiting efforts at the high school level, particularly within the 2027 and 2028 classes. Numerous 2027 prospects have scored Syracuse basketball offers of late. Let's see if Whyte lands one.
