A national analyst is high on Syracuse basketball signee Abdramane Siby, an international prospect and one of three centers on the Orange's roster for the upcoming 2026-27 season.

Bart Torvik, a data analytics guru, recently posted his rankings of the top committed players from Europe in the 2027 class, and the 7-foot, 210-pound Siby checks in at No. 5 overall, which is encouraging to see.

SU's roster to date for the upcoming campaign also features a second international prospect in four-star wing Mark Morano Mahmutovic from Slovenia. Per the rankings from Torvik, Mahmutovic, an excellent long-range shooter, lands just inside the top 25 overall.

Siby, a 19-year-old who is originally from Mali, is praised by analysts and scouts for his defensive instincts, rim protection, length, high motor and agility. Like many young players, Siby will need to keep getting stronger and add to his offensive repertoire, experts say.

Around the time that word first broke on Siby pledging to Syracuse basketball, DraftExpress director of scouting Jon Chepkevich wrote in part that Siby "projects as an elite ACC defender from day one with his length, motor, mobility, and versatility. ... Still needs to add mass to his frame and polish up his ball skills, but the flashes and foundation are there. ... High character kid with real NBA upside."

Incoming Syracuse basketball center Abdramane Siby has big-time upside.

In the 2025-26 season, Siby, who has a 7-foot-6 wingspan, has been competing for Mega Superbet, a pro club in Belgrade, Serbia, that is part of the Adriatic Basketball Association. Over 22 games, he has averaged 15.3 minutes, 4.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots per contest while connecting on 62.5 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line.

As I noted in another recent column, Siby had one of his best games of the 2025-26 stanza late last month, with Jonathan Givony, the founder of DraftExpress, saying that the incoming Orange big man showed "a lot of raw promise, especially defensively."

Besides Siby, Syracuse basketball's centers for the 2026-27 season include three-star transfer Tasman Goodrick, a junior from Siena, and four-star transfer Luke Wilson, a redshirt sophomore from Appalachian State.

Currently, SU has 13 players on its 2026-27 roster, with two scholarships still open. Four players are returning from this past season, while head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff have hauled in six college transfers and three prep signees.

Torvik, in his preseason projections for the upcoming 2026-27 college basketball term, places Syracuse at No. 53 overall. The Orange is trying to get back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021.
