Payton Jones, a 2027 four-star point guard whom the Syracuse basketball staff watched during a live period on the AAU circuits this past May, has transferred to the powerhouse Dynamic Prep in Carrollton, Texas.

The 6-foot-3, 188-pound Jones was previously a standout at Beaumont United High School in Beaumont, Texas, where he averaged 20 points per game during the 2025-26 season.

In recent years, Dynamic Prep has proven one of the top high school programs around the country. The Bearcats are led by head coach Jermaine O'Neal, a former NBA star. This past season, Dynamic Prep advanced to the semifinals of the Chipotle Nationals.

In the 2024-25 campaign, the Bearcats went 34-5 overall and reached the championship game of the Chipotle Nationals. MaxPreps named Dynamic Prep its number-one team around the country in the media outlet's final national rankings of independent basketball academies and prep-school teams that don't compete for state-affiliated high school titles.

Syracuse basketball is showing interest in 2027 four-star point guard Payton Jones.

In May, amid a live period in grassroots hoops, the new Orange staff under first-year head coach Gerry McNamara watched Jones as he played for the 17U team of the Houston-based Gulf Coast Blue Chips in the Under Armour Association ("UAA") league, according to recruiting analysts.

Jones is a prolific-scoring guard, having already reached more than 2,000 career points in high school. According to his Instagram page, Jones' scholarship offer sheet includes teams such as Texas Southern University, Kansas State, Lamar, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, LSU, Missouri, Stephen F. Austin, Maryland, Grambling State, UTSA, San Diego, Auburn, TCU, N.C. State, SMU, UNLV, New Orleans, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, New Mexico State, Houston, Cincinnati, Clemson and Baylor, among others.

When the 'Cuse and other college programs were in for Jones this past May, he played quite well as the UAA circuit held a session in Hamilton, Ohio, near Cincinnati. During this session, Jones averaged 20.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game and was named by the scouting experts at The Circuit to their All-UAA second team for this particular session.

Within the 2027 class, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite places Jones at No. 76 overall, No. 13 at combo guard and No. 4 in Texas. Over at the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking, he is No. 82 nationally, No. 21 at point guard and No. 5 in Texas.
