Rumors are swirling in SU chat forums that Owen Freeman, a four-star transfer center, visited Syracuse basketball on Tuesday.

I'm not suggesting that the junior power forward/center from Big East Conference member Creighton is on commitment watch, or anything like that. But he is a prospect to monitor for Orange fans.

The 6-foot-10, 240-pound Freeman hails from Moline, Ill. He spent his first two college seasons at Big Ten Conference school Iowa before moving to Creighton. Now he's in the transfer portal again.

In 2025-26, the Bluejays struggled, going just 16-18 overall. Before last season commenced, he suffered a knee injury that required surgery, and he didn't appear to be at full strength as a junior.

Freeman appeared in 26 games, averaging 11.9 minutes, 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest while making 60.2 percent from the field and 64.3 percent from the free-throw line.

During the 2024-25 stanza, while at Iowa, he was excellent, starting the first 19 games before having surgery on his finger. As a sophomore, he averaged 26.4 minutes, 16.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.8 blocks per encounter while connecting on 63.8 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from beyond the arc and 60.0 percent from the charity stripe.

Syracuse basketball needs more big men for its 2026-27 roster.

Freeman is a four-star transfer prospect on the 247Sports Web site. In national transfer ratings from the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, he is four stars, No. 128 overall and No. 34 at power forward.

When he entered the transfer portal while still at Iowa, the On3 Industry Ranking placed Freeman as four stars, No. 24 nationally and No. 3 at center.

The transfer portal opened on April 7 and will run through April 21. Orange head coach Gerry McNamara and his staff are busy constructing their roster for the 2026-27 campaign.

Here's how the roster looks at this point:
•Ryan Moesch, 2026 four-star point guard
•Mark Morano Mahmutovic, a 2026 four-star wing from Slovenia
•Freshman guard Kiyan Anthony
•Freshman forward Sadiq White Jr.
•Freshman wing Calvin Russell III
•Sophomore guard Noah Lobdell
•Sophomore guard Aiden Tobiason, a four-star transfer from Temple
•Junior guard Garwey Dual, a four-star transfer from McNeese State
•Sophomore guard Gavin Doty, a four-star transfer from Siena
•Junior power forward/center Tasman Goodrick, a transfer from Siena

SU's back-court is in strong shape. The team needs a starting center and more big men. Freeman could be a solid addition. Let's see how this plays out.
