Syracuse shocked by Seminoles, eliminated in quarterfinals of ACC Tournament
By Sam Fariss
The Syracuse women's basketball team has been knocked out of the ACC Tournament shockingly early after a quarterfinal loss to the Florida State Seminoles.
Due to the Orange's third-place finish in the conference standings, the team had byes through the first two rounds of the tournaments. Syracuse was making their postseason debut against FSU with Dyaisha Fair leading the way.
The guard has led the team in just about every stat line possible this season. With 22 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, Fair is an incredibly skilled player on both ends of the court.
However, in Friday night's match up against the Seminoles, Fair's astounding 23 points weren't enough to lift her team to victory.
Saniaa Wilson was the only other Orange with more than 10 points (14), Georgia Woolley and Alaina Rice had 10 each. Meanwhile, starting forward Kyra Wood failed to make any of her shots fall and ended the devastating loss with a goose egg in her points column.
While both team shot exactly 40.3 percent from the field and the Orange actually shot 4.6 percentage points better from beyond the arc, the Seminole defense wasn't messing around.
Florida State held Syracuse to a measly 27 points in the first half while scoring 39 points of their own.
The Orange was relentless and fought back throughout the second half of the game, more than doubling their score. Sadly, Florida State simply couldn't be caught and the Seminoles walked away with a 78-65 win over Syracuse.
Florida State will go on to play NC State in the semifinal round of the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 9.
Meanwhile, Syracuse will have to wait to see what the rest of their postseason will look like β whether that be the NIT or NCAA Tournament.
