Syracuse football will get a visit from 5-star edge who just de-committed from FSU

Five-star prospect Javion Hilson, an elite edge rusher in the 2025 class who hails from Florida, plans to visit Syracuse football and various other suitors coming up, according to a national recruiting expert.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Hilson, a consensus top-75 national prospect in the high school senior class, said via his X page on September 8 that he was de-committing from fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Florida State and reopening his recruitment.
In a post on X this week, On3's Hayes Fawcett noted that Hilson plans to take visits to at least seven schools, and possibly more than that. The seven teams mentioned in Fawcett's social media post include the Orange, Florida, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M and Michigan.
That's some mighty steep competition for Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff. At the same time, it's highly encouraging that Hilson expects to make a trip to Central New York soon.
Syracuse football appears to be a contender for 2025 five-star edge Javion Hilson.
A standout at Cocoa High School in Cocoa, Fla., Hilson holds nearly 40 scholarship offers, per his bio on the 247Sports Web site. The Orange staff offered him this past January. That same month, Hilson flipped his verbal pledge from Alabama to Florida State.
According to posts on X, Hilson took an unofficial visit to the 'Cuse in April, and he was reportedly in attendance for the team's annual spring game. My assumption is that when he travels to the Hill again at some point, it will be for an official visit to Syracuse football, but I don't know that for sure.
Not too long ago, Rivals.com and Yahoo Sports national recruiting director Adam Gorney published an article on Hilson. Gorney wrote that Hilson "is not counting out Florida State again when he revisits everything in his recruitment."
Gorney added, "The Longhorns and the Aggies are now under consideration along with Florida State. UCF, Alabama, Syracuse, Ohio State and Georgia have entered the Hilson sweepstakes as well following his decommitment Sunday night."
When I wrote this story, Rivals.com placed Hilson as five stars, No. 15 overall, No. 1 at the edge and No. 2 in Florida within the 2025 cycle. Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking have him in the top 40 around the country, as well as the No. 2 edge rusher.
To date, Syracuse football has secured 28 verbal commitments in its 2025 class, a cycle that ranks between the top 35 and the top 40 nationwide, per several recruiting services.
