Syracuse football senior quarterback Kyle McCord is off to an "impressive start" on the Hill, an NFL scout says.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound McCord, a four-star transfer from Ohio State who was also a former five-star prep recruit coming out of the Philadelphia area, has helped guide the Orange to a 2-0 record so far in the young 2024 season.
The 'Cuse has been on a bye week and will next suit up, at home, against new Atlantic Coast Conference member Stanford in the evening on September 20.
Heading into this weekend's slate of college football games, McCord was among the national and ACC leaders in various statistical categories at quarterback. Since Syracuse football was off this weekend, that will change, however, a media report notes that NFL scouts have taken notice of McCord's first two games in an Orange uniform.
An NFL scout weighs in on Syracuse football senior quarterback Kyle McCord.
In a recent article from national writers Matt Zenitz and John Talty of 247Sports/CBS Sports, they got some thoughts from an NFL scout on McCord, who hails from Mount Laurel, N.J.
Here's what this NFL scout said about McCord in the piece from Zenitz and Talty. "I was not a fan of the Ohio State tape at all. Had him as a priority free agent coming into this season. He has really fit Syracuse like a glove. I still don't like his lack of arm talent, but he can place it when in rhythm. Timing looks right and he is playing confident. Most importantly, Coach (Fran) Brown is speaking life into his game from what I've seen, saying he is their biggest weapon, and that was never the case last year (at Ohio State). Impressive start."
As far as the 2025 NFL Draft goes, Zenitz and Talty note that, at least for now, "McCord isn't currently viewed as a first-round possibility." However, if he continues to perform at a high level, and Syracuse football keeps on winning games, perhaps McCord can garner even more draft buzz.
The 2025 NFL Draft, by the way, is scheduled to run from April 24 to April 26 of next year.
Before this weekend's docket of games, analyst Robert Griffin III had said in a post on his X page that McCord was one of his five front-runners after week two for the Heisman Trophy. To reiterate, we've got a long way to go in the 2024 season, so I don't want to get too ahead of myself.
But at this stage in the current term, there is a lot of excitement brewing around McCord and the Syracuse football program, especially after the Orange on September 7 defeated then-No. 23 Georgia Tech, 31-28, at the JMA Wireless Dome.
