Okay, friends, here we go – there had been chatter about Syracuse football being a potential future landing spot for Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord, who is one of the top quarterbacks nationwide in the portal.

Now word has come out, via Rivals.com national analyst Adam Friedman, that the 6-foot-3, 215-pound McCord is planning to take an official visit to the Orange this weekend, which is huge news.

McCord, a junior with the Big Ten Conference’s Buckeyes, had recently taken a visit to fellow Big Ten school Nebraska, but then reports stated he was going to take a look at other possible destinations, and on Wednesday night, the ‘Cuse was mentioned in this conversation.

A former recruiting target of the Orange a few years ago, McCord in the 2023 stanza at Ohio State completed nearly 66 percent of his passes for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns, against just six interceptions.

The Buckeyes are 11-1 and will play Missouri in a top-10 clash on December 29 at the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas. McCord said on December 4 that he was entering the NCAA’s transfer portal.

Syracuse football will host Ohio State quarterback transfer Kyle McCord on an official visit.

On Wednesday, 247Sports college football writer Tom Loy said in a social media post, “I’m told to keep a very close eye on Syracuse and Kyle McCord.”

In national transfer rankings for the current cycle, McCord resides in the top 50 overall, and 247Sports has him as the No. 10 quarterback across the country.

Syracuse football offered him a scholarship in May of 2018. McCord was a five-star, top-30 overall player in the 2021 class, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

He attended the St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia and is from Mount Laurel, N.J. New Orange head coach Fran Brown and new defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson both grew up Camden, N.J., which is geographically close to Philadelphia and Mount Laurel.

This weekend, Syracuse football coaches are expected to welcome numerous transfer targets and 2024 verbal commits on official visits to the Hill. Perhaps no official visitor is more massive to the ‘Cuse than McCord.

Also on Thursday, reports surfaced that the Orange may be showing interest in Texas redshirt freshman quarterback Maalik Murphy, who entered the transfer portal on December 13.

The 6-foot-5, 238-pound Murphy was a four-star, top-250 national prospect as well as a top-15 quarterback out of Junípero Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif.

In national transfer rankings, 247Sports has Murphy as a top-20 overall player and a top-five quarterback.
