Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown and his staff continue to do a fabulous job picking up talented college players via the transfer portal.

On Saturday, Georgia freshman offensive lineman Joshua Miller, who entered the transfer portal on December 20, said via his X page that he would transfer from the Southeastern Conference's Bulldogs to the 'Cuse, a huge recruiting win for the Orange coaching staff.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Miller, who is from Chesterfield, Va., had also noted a scholarship offer from SEC squad Auburn, but the 'Cuse prevailed in his recruitment. Naturally, we should mention here that Brown, most recently, served as Georgia's defensive backs coach prior to succeeding Dino Babers on the Hill.

I had prognosticated in a column on Friday that Miller was a portal entry to monitor, given he has played at Georgia, where Brown used to coach. Let's all congratulate and welcome Joshua to the Orange family!

Yet again, Syracuse football has secured a commitment from a talented college transfer.

This past Wednesday, at the start of the early signing period, the 'Cuse officially signed 24 players in its 2024 class, including 18 high school seniors and six transfers. Now we can add Miller to that already impressive cycle for the Orange.

Miller, a three-star prospect in the 2023 class, reportedly took a redshirt at Georgia this season, and I anticipate that he will have four years of collegiate eligibility remaining.

He attended the Life Christian Academy in South Chesterfield, Va. ESPN had him as the No. 19 offensive guard nationally in this class. The two industry-generated rating systems, the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Industry Ranking, both placed him as a top-700 national prospect in the 2023 class.

While in high school, Miller received more than 15 scholarship offers from college teams including Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Maryland, Nebraska, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Penn State, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Virginia, among others.

In the current transfer portal cycle, Miller is the third player from Georgia to commit to Syracuse football. Earlier, both four-star freshman wide receiver Yazeed Haynes and three-star junior wide receiver Jackson Meeks said they would transfer from the Bulldogs to the Orange.

Mekhi Mews, a redshirt sophomore wide receiver/return specialist at Georgia who is in the transfer portal, also recently went on a visit to the ‘Cuse, and he holds a scholarship offer from Syracuse football.

I think it's important to stress here the importance of the Orange coaching staff landing an offensive lineman out of the portal.

Two of the team's 2024 high school commits to date are also offensive linemen, and they are three-star Noah Rosahac of Jim Thorpe Area High School in Jim Thorpe, Pa., and three-star Willie Goodacre of John H. Guyer High School in Denton, Texas.

However, Miller is the first 'Cuse commit from the transfer portal who plays on the offensive line. In recent days, I had seen a lot of my fellow Syracuse football fans express the need for the Orange to land another offensive lineman, and the Orange has done just that.
