LaMason Waller lll, a 2025 four-star athlete/wide receiver from the west coast, has included Syracuse football in his top 10 and has also set a commitment announcement date.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Waller, a standout junior at Sultana High School in Hesperia, Calif., received a scholarship offer from the Orange in January of 2023, when head coach Dino Babers and his staff were leading the ‘Cuse.

In early December, former Georgia defensive backs coach Fran Brown was named the new head coach of the Orange, and he’s been assembling a top-flight staff at Syracuse football.

Waller, via his X page, said his top 10 consist of the ‘Cuse, Colorado, Tennessee, Washington, Stanford, Michigan State, Arizona, Louisville, Texas A&M and Georgia.

For what it’s worth, when I wrote this article on Friday, Colorado was receiving some analyst buzz in Waller’s recruitment on the 247Sports Web site and the On3 Web site.

Syracuse football remains in the mix for 2025 four-star WR LaMason Waller lll.

Waller was named an All-American by MaxPreps as both a freshman and a sophomore. He also put forth a strong junior campaign in the 2023 season, saying on his X page that he had 62 receptions, 1,151 total yards and 15 touchdowns.

In previous interviews, Waller has spoken highly of the Syracuse football program, adding that he has been forming a strong relationship with ‘Cuse coach Michael Johnson.

Johnson served as the team’s wide receivers coach the past two terms, and he’s now the Orange’s co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach.

Ross Douglas, most recently a wide receivers coach with the NFL’s New England Patriots, is now the ‘Cuse passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach.

Waller has said that Johnson has wanted the talented wide receiver to come on a visit to the SU campus. I’ve seen some chatter more recently regarding this, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Waller ends up making a trip to the Hill before he reveals his college decision on March 18.

According to media reports, Waller has visited several of his finalists, including Colorado and Tennessee. Per his bio on Rivals.com, he’s also amassed more than 50 scholarship offers throughout his recruiting process.

A piece from On3 director of recruiting Chad Simmons says that Waller plans to visit Louisville on January 27 as well as Miami on January 20. Simmons notes that while the Hurricanes aren’t in Waller’s top 10, Miami coaches have been recruiting him and he wants to learn more about that Sunshine State program.

On a national scale within the 2025 class, Rivals.com ranks him at No. 229, followed by No. 240 at On3, No. 277 at the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, and No. 303 at the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Multiple recruiting Web sites also place Waller as a top-40 wide receiver and a top-25 prospect in California within the junior cycle. Let’s see if Syracuse football coaches can get Waller to Central New York for a visit soon.
