Fast-rising 2024 defensive back and wide receiver Ibn McDaniels from New Jersey will take an official visit to Syracuse football this coming weekend, starting on January 12.

SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister first reported this news. McDaniels is a 6-foot-3, 190-pound multi-positional athlete who attends Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth, N.J.

According to McAllister’s piece, McDaniels has received a scholarship offer from the Orange coaching staff.

A few days ago, McDaniels was named to the New Jersey High School Football Coaches Association (“NJFCA”) North 2 Super 100 All-State team for the 2023 season.

Syracuse football will host 2024 DB/WR Ibn McDaniels on an official visit.

Per his bio on nj.com, during the 2023 season for Elizabeth, McDaniels caught 44 passes for 744 yards and eight receiving scores. On defense, he recorded 34 total tackles, one fumble recovery, three interceptions and one pick-six.

McAllister, a top recruiting analyst, wrote in part that McDaniels “is a long, smooth athlete who can run and has great instincts. He looks every bit the part of a power five caliber recruit.”

As we’ve noted in many columns lately, the new Orange coaching staff has a lot of recruiting connections and deep ties to the state of New Jersey and throughout the Northeast corridor.

Fran Brown, who in early December was officially introduced as the team’s new head coach, replacing Dino Babers, is from Camden, N.J. He grew up there alongside long-time friend Elijah Robinson, who is the new ‘Cuse defensive coordinator and assistant head coach.

Other Syracuse football coaches, including quarterbacks coach Nunzio Campanile, also hail from New Jersey. Within the Orange’s 2024 cycle, the ‘Cuse has secured commitments from numerous players who come from that state.

Per an article from recruiting analyst Charles Kang of The Juice Online, Brown and Khalil Ahmad are the lead recruiters for McDaniels. Ahmad recently rejoined Syracuse football as the team’s executive director of player personnel and recruiting.

McDaniels says he’s excited to officially visit the Orange in the coming days. “Fran and Khalil are making Cuse feel like home already,” McDaniels said to Kang. “I didn’t even visit yet.”

To date, Syracuse football has landed 30 commitments in its 2024 class, consisting of 19 high school seniors and 11 college transfers. Those Orange pledges include multiple defensive backs and wide receivers.
