Mekhi Mews, who had a solid 2023 season as a wide receiver and return specialist for Southeastern Conference powerhouse Georgia and is in the NCAA’s transfer portal, is making a trip to Syracuse football.

The 5-foot-8, 185-pound Mews, a redshirt sophomore with the Bulldogs, said on his X page that he will take a visit to the Orange this weekend.

Since entering the transfer portal, he has picked up several scholarship offers, including from the ‘Cuse, Georgia Tech, East Carolina and Jacksonville State.

Per On3 national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett, in the 2023 term, Mews collected more than 750 all-purpose yards, one punt- return touchdown and one receiving score. Mews will have two years of eligibility left.

Georgia transfer Mekhi Mews is going on a visit to Syracuse football.

Mews was a standout at Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville, Ga. He committed to Georgia as a preferred walk-on, according to media reports.

In his senior season at Central Gwinnett, Mews totaled 1,522 yards and 11 touchdowns and was named the Gwinnett County Wide Receiver of the Year, according to an article from Jeremy Johnson of the Athens Banner-Herald that came out in January of 2021.

Per his bio on the Georgia athletics department Web site, Mews earned numerous other accolades in his senior year, including the All-Region first team, All-County first team and the Region 8-AAAAAA Player of the Year.

Fran Brown, who was formally introduced by SU Athletics as the head coach of Syracuse football on December 4, was most recently the defensive backs coach at Georgia.

A few days ago, Brown and his coaching staff landed their first commitment out of the transfer portal, and it came from wide receiver Jackson Meeks, a junior wide receiver at Georgia.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Meeks, who will have one year of eligibility remaining, was a three-star prospect in the 2021 class who went to Central High School in Phenix City, Ala.

Additionally, Georgia freshman wide receiver Yazeed Haynes, who is also in the transfer portal, plans to take an official visit to the ‘Cuse this weekend, according to Rivals.com national analyst Adam Friedman.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Haynes played at North Penn High School in Lansdale, Pa. Multiple recruiting services ranked him as a top-250 overall player and a top-30 wide receiver within the 2023 class.

Brown, regarded as one of the top recruiters in the country, and his assistants have hit the ground running on the recruiting trail since taking over at the Syracuse football program.

Last weekend, the Orange hosted a ton of highly ranked prospects on official visits. In recent days, the team has secured verbal commitments from several 2024 players, in addition to Meeks via the portal.

This coming weekend, per reports and social media posts, the ‘Cuse coaching staff will welcome to the Hill on visits a handful of college transfer targets as well as some 2024 prospects who are verbally pledged to Syracuse football.
