Earlier this month, Syracuse football was among the schools that conducted in-home visits with 2024 five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley from Louisiana.

McKinley, a consensus top-60 national prospect in the senior class, is verbally committed to Texas A&M but didn’t officially sign with the Aggies during the recent early signing period.

As such, other suitors are making a run at the 6-foot-6, 270-pound McKinley, and several analysts have noted of late that the Orange could be in the mix for a potential official visit from him in the future.

The primary recruiter for McKinley at Texas A&M has been Elijah Robinson, the new ‘Cuse defensive coordinator who most recently has served as the Aggies’ interim head coach and co-defensive coordinator.

McKinley verbally pledged to Texas A&M out of the Southeastern Conference on September 1. The Aggies have a new head coach in former Duke boss Mike Elko.

Syracuse football may be a visit destination for 2024 5-star DL Dominick McKinley.

According to the 247Sports Web site and media reports, McKinley is planning to officially visit LSU during the weekend of January 12 and then to Tennessee during the weekend of January 19.

In a recent article, Rivals.com national analyst John Garcia Jr. said that other college squads, including Texas and the ‘Cuse, “could be in the mix for additional trips next month” as it pertains to McKinley.

Adam Friedman, also a national analyst at Rivals.com, wrote in another recent piece that Syracuse football and the schools noted directly above, along with Oklahoma, “are trying to get McKinley’s attention.”

The traditional National Signing Day for 2024 prospects arrives on February 7, so let’s see if the Orange could get him on the Hill for a visit before then.

McKinley, a standout senior at Acadiana High School in Lafayette, La., is expected to compete in the prestigious Under Armour All-America Game, which will take place on January 3 in Orlando, Fla.

Throughout his recruiting process, McKinley has picked up more than two dozen scholarship offers from schools such as Texas A&M, Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Houston, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas Tech, among others.

When I wrote this column, all the primary recruiting services rated McKinley as a top-six defensive lineman and either the No. 1 or the No. 2 prospect in Louisiana.

At the time of this writing, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite placed McKinley at No. 27 nationally, No. 6 at defensive lineman and No. 1 in Louisiana.
