Syracuse Football: 4-star N.J. athlete likes SU, but titans including Alabama in mix
By Neil Adler
Amari Sabb, a 2026 four-star athlete who hails from New Jersey, recently told a national analyst that he's high on several programs, including Syracuse football, which he visited earlier this year.
The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Sabb is a standout rising junior at Glassboro High School in Glassboro, N.J., where he plays both defensive back and wide receiver. You can view some of his statistics during the 2023 season by heading on over to the MaxPreps Web site.
It should be noted that several 'Cuse coaches, including head coach and ace recruiter Fran Brown, come from New Jersey. Since taking over the program in early December of last year, Brown and his staff have recruited the Garden State hard, along with the rest of the Northeast corridor and other states around the country.
In late January of this year, Sabb unofficially visited the Orange as part of one of the team's junior days. Several recruiting services say that he holds a scholarship offer from Syracuse football, although it's not clear to me whether that offer was from the former 'Cuse staff or the new one led by Brown.
Syracuse football appears to be an early contender for 2026 four-star athlete Amari Sabb.
In a recent article from Rivals.com national analyst Marshall Levenson, schools mentioned as "trending up" for Sabb include the Orange, Penn State, Alabama, Oregon and Oklahoma.
Levenson writes that Sabb "is looking to take visits this summer to nearly the whole group and also added Ohio State and Maryland as two more potential visit spots. Alabama will have an interesting angle at his recruitment as his older brother, Keon Sabb, transferred into the program this offseason as Kalen Deboer took over the reins."
Per recruiting Web sites, Amari Sabb holds more than 20 high-major offers at this juncture from college squads such as Alabama, Boston College, Duke, Georgia, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among others.
When I wrote this article, both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking had Sabb within the top 400 around the country in the 2026 cycle. His highest national ranking, currently, comes via Rivals.com, where he's No. 247 overall.
Brown and his assistants are off to a fast start in the 2026 class, securing verbal pledges so far from four-star athlete/defensive back Demetres Samuel Jr. of Heritage High School in Palm Bay, Fla., four-star linebacker/edge Izayia Williams of Tavares High School in Tavares, Fla., and four-star running back D'Antae Sheffey with Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Pa.
On Wednesday, the 247Sports Composite had the Syracuse football 2026 cycle at No. 3 nationwide.
