Syracuse Football: 2024 class, filled with 4 stars, top 40 at prep level, top 20 in portal
By Neil Adler
To date, Syracuse football coaches have secured a total of at least 32 commitments in their 2024 class, including both high school seniors and college transfers.
Given where the Orange’s recruiting cycles were ranked on a national scale in recent years, what new head coach Fran Brown and his staff have done in about two months has, to me, proven quite remarkable.
Brown was officially introduced as the team’s boss in early December, replacing Dino Babers. Since that time, ‘Cuse coaches reaffirmed the commitments of some high school seniors who were initially offered by Babers and his staff.
Additionally, Brown and his assistants picked up pledges from numerous “new” high school seniors, while also doing a terrific job in the transfer portal.
Like every other power conference squad, the Orange has seen some of its 2023 players depart the program through the portal. But by and large, national analysts have praised Brown & Co. for their 2024 recruiting efforts, which don’t appear to be quite done but are relatively set at this juncture.
Syracuse football coaches have landed a fabulous 2024 class.
Here are the latest national ratings for the Orange’s 2024 cycle, both at the high school level and with college transfers. These rankings were as of Saturday afternoon, when I wrote this article.
247Sports Composite
High School Senior: 38
Transfer: 23
On3 Industry Ranking
High School Senior: 42
Transfer: 12
Rivals.com
High School Senior: 36
Transfer: 18
As far as the team’s prep recruiting in 2024 goes, at least five committed players are rated four stars by at least one recruiting service.
Via the portal, at least four guys who transferred into the program are ranked four stars by one recruiting service or more.
What’s more, of the college transfers who have pledged to the Orange, at least seven of them were also rated four stars while in high school, and one ‘Cuse commit, quarterback Kyle McCord, was five stars.
Look, Syracuse football isn’t at the level of the elite programs in college football, teams such as Georgia (where Brown most recently was the defensive backs coach), Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida State and Clemson, among others.
However, let’s remember where the Orange’s recruiting rankings have been in recent seasons. Let’s also keep in mind that Brown has only been at the helm of the program for about two months, and some of his assistants came on board even more recently.
For the Syracuse football class to reside in the top 40 at the prep level, and in the top 15 to the top 20 out of the portal, to me, speaks volumes about where ‘Cuse recruiting can go in the years ahead.
