Syracuse basketball watched 4-stars, 5-stars in latest live period; here's who they are
By Neil Adler
This past weekend, Syracuse basketball coaches were out and about at various events amid an NCAA live period, according to social media posts from recruiting analysts, scouts and others.
The most recent live period involved prospects suiting up for their high school teams, rather than their AAU programs. Among other places, there were showcases in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region, Philadelphia and New Jersey.
While this list below isn't meant to be fully exhaustive, I did want to highlight some of the Orange recruiting targets in the 2025, 2026 and 2027 classes who were watched by the 'Cuse staff during this scholastic live period.
Syracuse basketball coaches watched numerous four-star and five-star recruits over the weekend.
DMV Live
•Per top national analyst/scout Jamie Shaw of On3, Orange head coach Adrian Autry was in attendance at DMV Live for 2025 four-star big man Matt Gilhool, a standout power forward/center who stars for the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. Gilhool holds a 'Cuse offer and has visited the Hill on several occasions, including an official visit to Syracuse basketball in late September of last year.
Philly Live
•The Orange coaching staff was in attendance for numerous games at last week's Philly Live event, including a contest between the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia's Father Judge High School, per a post on X from top scout Ari Rosenfeld, the owner of ELITE High School Scouting. A standout at Sidwell Friends is 2025 four-star guard Acaden Lewis, who was offered by Syracuse basketball in late April and has said wants to visit the 'Cuse at some point.
•The Orange staff, per Rosenfeld, was in the house for a battle between James Hubert Blake High School in Silver Spring, Md., and Union Catholic Regional High School in Scotch Plains, N.J. Over the weekend, as I wrote in a separate story, the 'Cuse offered a scholarship to 2027 five-star forward Baba Oladotun, who plays for Blake and is rated the No. 1 national prospect in his cycle by ESPN.
•According to Rosenfeld, the Syracuse basketball staff was at an encounter between the Imhotep Institute Charter High School in Philadelphia and the Andrews Osborne Academy from Willoughby, Ohio. On the Imhotep roster is 2027 four-star power forward and top-20 national prospect Zion Green, who over the weekend secured an Orange scholarship offer, as first reported by the X account THE MILLER REPORT.
•Rosenfeld notes in X posts that Autry also was on hand for two games involving Gonzaga College High School in D.C., one against the Andrews Osborne Academy and the second versus Hudson Catholic Regional High School in Jersey City, N.J. One of the leaders for Gonzaga is 2025 four-star combo guard Derek Dixon, who has an Orange offer and officially visited Syracuse basketball in late September of 2023. Candidly, it's unclear to me if Autry was also focused on other players for Gonzaga or its two foes.
Mid-Atlantic Independent School Team Camp
•The Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J., hosted this event over the weekend, and one of the stars for the Bucs is 2026 five-star point guard and top-25 national prospect Deron Rippey Jr., who was offered by 'Cuse in late August of last year and took an unofficial visit to the program this past February on Jim Boheim Day. Orange assistant coach Allen Griffin was in for Rippey last weekend, according to multiple media reports. Additionally, I caught up on Sunday by phone with Rippey's dad, who confirmed that Griffin watched his son over the weekend. Rippey's dad reiterated to me that his son will take an official visit to Syracuse basketball down the line.
