Syracuse basketball is among those suitors recruiting 2025 four-star forward Cam Ward hard, and the talented prospect from the Washington, D.C., area appears to be eyeing some upcoming campus visits.
The 6-foot-7 Ward, who received a scholarship offer from the Orange staff about a year ago, was sensational as a junior in the 2023-24 campaign, leading Largo High School in Upper Marlboro, Md., to a state title and picking up a bunch of awards and honors along the way.
On the AAU circuit this spring and summer, Ward is competing for the 17U squad of the Oxon Hill, Md.-based Team Durant in Nike’s EYBL league. Last weekend, he earned high praise from national analysts and scouts for his play at a grassroots basketball event.
Syracuse basketball seems to be prioritizing 2025 four-star forward Cam Ward.
Last weekend, Ward and Team Durant suited up at the MADE Hoops East Mania in Baltimore. Among those to dole out high marks to him at this AAU event were MADE Hoops scout Colby Giacubeno and 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London, among others.
London, in a write-up on top performers at the MADE Hoops East Mania, said that "Ward has good size and frame for a four and can serve as a floor spacer and finisher at the rim. Ward also plays with a ton of energy and fire on the court that is infectious."
London adds that programs recruiting Ward hard include Arkansas, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Georgetown and Syracuse basketball, among others. Ward, the 247Sports national analyst writes, looks to make a college decision "around October or November" and also plans to set up some visits in the "next couple of weeks."
Ward holds more than 20 offers from schools such as Virginia, Michigan State, Louisville, Villanova, Saint Louis, Notre Dame, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Old Dominion, Texas, Iowa, Providence, Tennessee, VCU, Georgetown, Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, George Mason, George Washington and Bryant.
To date, Ward has officially visited Florida State and Notre Dame, while he's also taken unofficial visits to local squads Maryland and Georgetown. I'm not aware of Ward having visited the 'Cuse yet, although last September amid the fall recruiting period, the Syracuse basketball coaching staff was reportedly in attendance for him during an open gym at Largo High School.
Naturally, if the Orange hopes to prevail for Ward, it will need to get him on the Hill for a visit. As I've noted many times, Syracuse basketball coaches do boast deep recruiting ties to the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore markets.
When I wrote this article, both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking, within the 2025 cycle, placed Ward in the top 60 nationally, the top 20 at small forward/power forward, and the No. 1 prospect from Maryland.
In 2023-24, he helped lead Largo High School (25-2 overall) to the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (“MPSSAA”) Class 2A state championship. Ward was named to The Washington Post's All-Met first team.
For this past term, he's also the MaxPreps player of the year and the Gatorade player of the year in Maryland. Per a late March press release on his Gatorade award, it was noted that as a junior, Ward averaged 26.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.4 assists and 2.1 blocks per contest.
