Isaiah Miranda, who held a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball while in high school, plans to enter the transfer portal, according to a post on X from the account 24/7 High School Hoops.
The 7-foot-1 power forward/center received a scholarship offer from the Orange coaching staff in November of 2021.
Miranda, in the 2023-24 season, was a redshirt freshman at Big 12 Conference member Oklahoma State. He only appeared in three games with the Cowboys.
In January of 2024, media reports stated that Miranda was no longer with the Oklahoma State program.
We’ll have to see if any Syracuse basketball players hit the portal.
Miranda, in the 2022-23 stanza, was with fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad N.C. State but didn’t see any court time with the Wolfpack.
He entered the transfer portal in May of 2023 and the following month, he committed to Oklahoma State, according to his bio on the 247Sports Web site.
The upcoming transfer-portal window, by the way, will open this Monday, March 18, and it will be open for 45 days before closing on Wednesday, May 1.
In high school, Miranda competed for the Springfield Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, Mass. The Pawtucket, R.I., native then spent his senior year at the Southern California Academy in Northridge, Calif.
Throughout his recruiting process, Miranda picked up more than 20 offers from a range of high-major programs, including the Orange.
As a member of the 2022 class, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranked Miranda at No. 45 overall, No. 10 at center and No. 6 in California.
I know that ‘Cuse fans will be monitoring which, if any, Syracuse basketball players on the 2023-24 roster decide to enter the transfer portal.
By extension, I’ll be watching how Orange coaches mine the portal for potential transfers to bring into the Syracuse basketball program.
In 2023-24, the ‘Cuse has had four centers on its roster. They are junior Naheem McLeod, who appeared in 14 games before suffering a season-ending injury; junior Mounir Hima and sophomore Peter Carey, neither of whom have played much at all; and freshman William Patterson, who is expected to take a redshirt this stanza.
After McLeod got injured, All-ACC sophomore Maliq Brown took over the starting center duties for the ‘Cuse, although at 6-foot-8 and 222 pounds, he’s more of a power forward than a traditional center.
