Syracuse basketball is among a range of suitors that are currently the most involved in the recruitment of 2025 four-star forward Cam Ward from the talent-rich Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.

That’s according to a recent post on X from the account 24/7 High School Hoops, which noted 16 schools the most involved these days with the 6-foot-7 Ward.

Others include fellow Atlantic Coast Conference teams Notre Dame, Florida State, Virginia and Georgia Tech, 2022 national champion Kansas, and local programs like Maryland and Georgetown.

Syracuse basketball coaches offered a scholarship to Ward in late April of last year. He’s one of nearly 20 high school juniors who have received offers from the Orange.

When the contact period for the 2025 class opened up in mid-June of 2023, media reports stated that Ward heard from the ‘Cuse. Last September, amid the fall recruiting period, the Orange was in attendance for Ward during an open gym at his high school in Maryland.

Syracuse basketball continues to pursue 2025 four-star forward Cam Ward.

Ward is a standout at Largo High School in Upper Marlboro, Md. National analysts and scouts say that he’s extremely athletic and is a high-octane scorer who shines both from the perimeter as well as closer to the rim.

To date in his recruiting process, Ward has landed a ton of high-major offers from college squads such as Virginia, Michigan State, Louisville, Villanova, Saint Louis, Notre Dame, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Old Dominion, Texas, Iowa, Providence, Tennessee, VCU, Georgetown, Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, George Mason, George Washington and Bryant.

So far, he has taken official visits to Florida State and Notre Dame, as well as unofficial visits to Maryland and Georgetown.

In its social media post, 24/7 High School Hoops wrote that Ward is working to schedule visits to Virginia and Penn State “in the coming weeks.”

I’ll be curious to see whether Ward ends up making a trip to Central New York to visit the Syracuse basketball program.

Last spring and summer, during the most recent AAU season, Ward was deemed a top performer by recruiting experts for his play as a member of the 16U team of the Oxon Hill, Md.-based Team Durant in Nike’s EYBL league.

When I wrote this piece, both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking had Ward within the top 65 around the country in the 2025 class.

Currently, ESPN is the most bullish on him, placing Ward at No. 39 overall, No. 12 at small forward and No. 2 in Maryland within the junior cycle.
