Syracuse Basketball: 5-star commit Donnie Freeman scores another top-20 national ranking
By Neil Adler
Syracuse basketball 2024 five-star commit Donnie Freeman, a top-flight power forward from Washington, D.C., continues to make moves in national rankings for the senior class.
Not too long ago, MADE Hoops refreshed its 2024 national ratings, and the 6-foot-9 Freeman arrived inside the top-20 overall, at No. 18.
He is officially signed with the Orange, alongside four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore from New York City in the team’s 2024 cycle, which is small in size but stellar in terms of quality.
Freeman is in the midst of an excellent 2023-24 season as a senior at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., which competes in the country’s top high school conference, the 14-member Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic (“EYBL Scholastic”).
Syracuse basketball commit Donnie Freeman is highly rated in his class.
Also recently, ESPN updated its 2024 national rankings, placing Freeman as five stars and No. 19 overall. New ratings from 247Sports for the senior cycle have him at No. 21 around the country, and Freeman is also No. 21 via On3.
A recent article on Rivals.com noted that Freeman is expected to make a significant jump in national rankings from that recruiting service in the near future. He’s currently No. 51 nationally, per Rivals.com.
Both of the industry-generated composite rating systems, the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Industry Ranking, have Freeman as a top-30 national prospect in the 2024 class.
He’s also generally deemed a top-five power forward and a top-five prospect coming out of Florida in this cycle.
Not too long ago, Freeman was one of 24 high school boys’ players who will be McDonald’s All-Americans for the 2023-24 campaign, which is a tremendous honor.
Freeman, who picked the ‘Cuse over other finalists Alabama, Iowa, Texas and Georgia Tech, last summer helped guide the Washington-based Team Takeover to the 17U Peach Jam championship on Nike’s EYBL circuit.
In December of 2023, ESPN recruiting director Paul Biancardi called Freeman the “most improved” prospect on a national scale within the senior class.
The Orange’s 2024 class is fabulous. Freeman is a McDonald’s All-American and one of the top power forwards nationwide. Moore is a lethal long-range shooter and a top-60 national prospect in this cycle who, to me, is vastly underrated in the senior class.
In any event, the Syracuse basketball coaching staff did a wonderful job retaining Moore after former head coach Jim Boeheim retired last March, while landing Freeman.
They both have a big-time opportunity to make an immediate impact for the ‘Cuse next season.
