Two Syracuse basketball four-star priority recruits in the 2025 class will join an Orange 2026 four-star target on unofficial visits to the ‘Cuse on Saturday when SU Athletics honors the legendary Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim.
Boeheim’s remarkable career will be celebrated on Saturday, as Syracuse basketball hosts fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad Notre Dame.
In attendance at the JMA Wireless Dome for this game will be 2025 four-star Sadiq White Jr., a 6-foot-8 forward from Charlotte, N.C., 2025 four-star Matthew Gilhool, a 6-foot-10 power forward/center from the Philadelphia area, and 2026 four-star Deron Rippey Jr., a 6-foot-2 point guard who hails from Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mike Waters of Syracuse.com had the news first on White. Top scout Ari Rosenfeld alerted us regarding Gilhool. I first reported in early February that Rippey would take an unofficial visit to the Hill this Saturday, Feb. 24.
Multiple four-star recruits are unofficially visiting Syracuse basketball.
White is a standout at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C., one of the highest-ranked programs to date in the 2023-24 season. He also went on an unofficial visit to the Orange in mid-September of last year.
White received a scholarship offer from the ‘Cuse in late April of 2023 and resides in the top 30 overall by both of the industry-generated rating systems, the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Industry Ranking.
Gilhool is a star junior at the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. Saturday will mark at least the third trip to Central New York for the top-100 national prospect.
In late August of 2023, he competed in the Orange’s annual Elite Camp, around which time Gilhool landed a Syracuse basketball offer.
In late September of last year, Gilhool officially visited the ‘Cuse. Earlier this month, per Penn Charter’s X page, Gilhool was named the MVP of the Inter-AC League.
Not too long ago, Penn Charter’s 2023-24 campaign ended when it lost to the Westtown School from West Chester, Pa., in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (“PAISAA”) tournament.
Also in late August of 2023, Rippey picked up his offer from Syracuse basketball. The 247Sports Composite and the On3 Industry Ranking both place him in the top 35 nationally within the 2026 cycle.
Rippey, as a sophomore, has had a strong 2023-24 stanza for the Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J. Earlier this week, he helped lead Blair to the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association ("NJSIAA") Prep A state championship.
The Bucs defeated the St. Benedict’s Preparatory School from Newark, N.J., in the title game, 53-51. Rippey was named to the All-Tournament team by njhoops.rivals.com.
On Friday afternoon, I briefly caught up with his dad, Deron Rippey Sr., by phone just before they were starting out on their trip to the Hill.
Deron Rippey Jr.'s dad says that they’re excited to unofficially visit the Orange on Saturday, and I’ll have more information on how that ‘Cuse trip went for Rippey soon.
