5 worst head coaching hires in Syracuse football history
By Sam Fariss
Despite being one of just seven coaches to lead the Orange in a postseason Bowl Game, Frank Maloney’s abysmal overall record knocks him down the all-time head coaching totem pole.
With a winning rate of just 41 percent, Maloney’s career at Syracuse can certainly be considered a bust. Out of his seven years with the team, he had just three winning seasons – his best year being a mediocre 7-5 overall record.
Maloney’s best year was capped off by a win in the 1979 Independence Bowl. The following season, he failed to make a postseason appearance and finished his final year with Syracuse at 5-6 overall.
