Syracuse women's basketball likely will be dancing when Selection Sunday arrives on March 15. Syracuse men's basketball, unless it wins the ACC Tournament, won't hear its name called for the field of 68.
One out of two is okay, but we all want it to be two of two in the future.
From a broadcasting perspective, though, Syracuse Orange alums will have massive representation when the NCAA Tournament gets going, at least on the men's side.
CBS Sports and TNT Sports recently announced their broadcasting teams for the upcoming men's NCAA Tournament. For the third straight Big Dance, play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle, an SU alum, will call the Final Four and national championship game alongside analysts Bill Raftery and Grant Hill, and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.
The national semifinals are on Saturday, April 4, with the title game on Monday, April 6.
Eagle and his colleagues will also call one of the region's through the Elite Eight. Another play-by-play announcer and SU alum, Andrew Catalon, will call a region through the Elite Eight, and he will work with analyst Steve Pappas and sideline reporter Evan Washburn.
Maryland Madness will be well-represented by Syracuse Orange broadcasting alumni.
Two other Syracuse University alums will serve as studio hosts for March Madness. Adam Zucker will host for CBS Sports in New York, while Adam Lefkoe will host for TNT Sports in Atlanta.
Now, this is awesome. For one of the First Four games, on Tuesday, March 17, play-by-play announcer Brian Anderson, who is terrific by the way, will call that contest alongside analysts Charles Barkley and Dick Vitale, and sideline reporter Jenny Dell. Love Dickie V so much!
In other sportscasting news involving SU alum, Jason Benetti earlier this month was named as the lead play-by-play announcer of NBC Sports' new Sunday Night Baseball primetime package on NBC and Peacock.
Also, a shoutout to Mike Tirico of NBC, who last month called his first Super Bowl and also served as the lead host for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Tirico is NBC's lead play-by-play announcer for the network's NBA coverage this season.
Eagle is also doing NBA coverage for Amazon Prime Video, while his son, SU alum Noah Eagle, is one of NBC's play-by-play voices for its NBA broadcasts. Former Syracuse basketball legend Carmelo Anthony serves as a studio analyst for NBC on its NBA coverage.
In early January, word came out that Syracuse University alum Sean McDonough was named the 2025 national sportscaster of the year, according to the National Sports Media Association.
