Four-star wing/small forward Vaughn Karvala is not expected to officially visit Syracuse basketball this weekend, a source told me on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-7 Karvala was eyeing an official visit to the Orange during the weekend that begins on September 26, but that trip is no longer happening. However, the 'Cuse staff and Karvala are working to find a new date for him to officially visit the Hill, per my source.
Karvala is one of the Orange's top targets in the 2026 cycle. He is a senior at the powerhouse CIA Bella Vista in Phoenix, which is part of the loaded, expanding Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Scholastic ("EYBL Scholastic").
Karvala transferred to CIA Bella Vista from Oregon High School in Oregon, Wis., earlier this year. During the latest AAU season, he starred for the 17U squad of the Milwaukee-based Team Herro in Nike's EYBL league.
Syracuse basketball will get another 2026 visitor this weekend.
The 'Cuse staff has been in for Karvala on the EYBL circuit during NCAA-permitted live periods. He took an unofficial visit to the Orange last November. Shortly thereafter, Syracuse basketball offered Karvala a scholarship.
Over the summer, in late June, he took an official visit to Xavier. His full offer sheet includes schools such as Alabama, Arizona State, Iowa, Marquette, Ole Miss, Xavier and Wisconsin. Karvala, within the 2026 class, is ranked as high as No. 30 nationally via ESPN.
Both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking place him inside the top 45 overall of this cycle.
While Karvala's new official visit date to the Orange is to be determined, 2026 five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr. of the Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J., will take an official visit to Syracuse basketball this weekend. I'll catch up with Rippey's dad after their trip to Central New York to see how the official visit went.
Besides Rippey and Karvala, other top 2026 targets for the 'Cuse include four-star shooting guard Dakari Spear, five-star shooting guard Jordan Smith Jr. and four-star big man Asher Elson, among others. Spear officially visited a few weeks ago. Smith has unofficially visited and will take another visit to Syracuse basketball at some point, I'm told. Elson takes his official visit to the Hill next month.
