The Grizzlies struggled this past season, going just 25-57 overall. The Trail Blazers sported a 42-40 mark, falling in the NBA Playoffs' first round as the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference to the No. 2 seed San Antonio Spurs, which ultimately advanced to the NBA Finals, where they lost to New York. Knicks!
Former Syracuse basketball star Jerami Grant is going to a new NBA team.
The 6-foot-7 Grant, a native of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area (my hometown), just wrapped up his 14th season in the NBA. The Philadelphia 76ers selected him at No. 39 overall in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft. He has played at the pro level for Philadelphia, Oklahoma City, Denver, Detroit and Portland.
In his NBA career, Grant has averaged 28.0 minutes, 13.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 blocks per game while connecting on 44.9 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from beyond the arc and 75.9 percent from the free-throw line.
For the Orange, Grant played two seasons. In his freshman term, Syracuse basketball went 30-10 overall in the program's final stanza in the Big East Conference. The Orange would advance to the Final Four before losing to Michigan in the national semifinals.
As a sophomore in the 2013-14 season, when SU bolted for the Atlantic Coast Conference, Grant was a key contributor in the 'Cuse racing out to a 25-0 start, a team record. Syracuse basketball went 28-6 overall, falling to Dayton in the NCAA Tournament's round of 32.
In recent seasons, the Orange has failed to have a player selected in the NBA Draft. Multiple former Syracuse basketball players, following the 2026 NBA Draft last week, signed deals that will enable them to play in the upcomng NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
