Syracuse football lost another close game on Saturday night at home against Louisville, but sixth-year wide receiver Umari Hatcher sure did his part. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Hatcher, who hails from Woodbridge, Va., hauled in 13 receptions for 224 yards and one score through the air.
His performance included a 65-yard catch. Per SU Athletics, in the Orange's 34-26 setback to the Cardinals at the JMA Wireless Dome, Hatcher's 224 yards were the fifth-most receiving yards for a Syracuse football player in a single contest ever, and also the eighth game of more than 200 yards in program history.
With this latest loss, the Orange fell to 2-4 overall and 0-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference competition. Syracuse football hasn't won a conference contest dating back to a road victory over Clemson in September 2025.
If not for SU's rough record, Hatcher could be looking at an All-American 2026 campaign. He's certainly in line for All-ACC honors if Hatcher continues at his current pace. He only played in one game in 2025 due to injury.
Hatcher entered the transfer portal but then withdrew his name. Ahead of the 2026 season, head coach Fran Brown and his staff raved about what they believed Hatcher could do in the current campaign. He's likely exceeding those expectations.
Syracuse football WR Umari Hatcher is crushing it this season.
Hatcher is on the watch list for this year's Biletnikoff Award, a national honor that annually recognizes the top receiver in FBS football. He's likely not going to win it, because Ohio State's record-breaking wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, a junior, is by far the leading contender to capture the 2026 Biletnikoff Award.

Still, Hatcher is making the most of his final season in college. To date, he has 50 receptions for 784 yards and seven touchdowns. His total receiving yards are No. 3 nationally and No. 1 in the ACC. Hatcher's seven TD receptions are tied for No. 8 nationally and No. 2 in the ACC.
A few more of his dazzling statistics at this juncture in the 2026 campaign:
•Hatcher's 8.33 receptions per game are tied for No. 1 nationally and in the ACC
•His 130.7 receiving yards per contest are No. 3 nationally and No. 1 in the ACC
•Hatcher's average of 15.7 yards per reception is No. 9 in the conference
Just a tremendous season for Umari Hatcher, even as Syracuse football is having a rough time.
