Three-star wide receiver BJ Garrett, who as a junior this past season helped his Delaware high school capture a state title, has pledged to Syracuse football, as head coach Fran Brown and his top-flight staff continue to fare well on the recruiting trail.
First and foremost, a huge congrats from Orange Nation to BJ! With his verbal commitment, the 'Cuse now has five pledges to date in its 2026 cycle. The team's other verbal commits in the junior class include four-star offensive tackle Javeion Cooper of Melbourne Central Catholic in Melbourne, Fla., three-star athlete/linebacker Maurice Medley of the Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, three-star athlete/defensive back Jaxson Gates of Damien High School in La Verne, Calif., and three-star running back D'Antae Sheffey of Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Pa.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Garrett announced his verbal commitment to the Orange this past Friday night. He was re-offered a scholarship by Brown and his assistants on February 17, 2024. Per his X account, last year, Garrett visited Syracuse football on multiple occasions.
According to recruiting services, Garrett's full offer sheet also has included schools such as Akron, Buffalo, Charlotte, UConn, Duke, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Temple, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and East Carolina, among others. He also reportedly held interest from Michigan and Penn State, per his bio on the On3 Web site.
Garrett is a junior at Middletown High School in Middletown, Del., which in late November of last year won the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association ("DIAA") Class 3A state championship. Per his X account, in the 2024 campaign for Middletown, Garrett hauled in 45 catches for 680 yards and six touchdowns.
As to why he picked the 'Cuse, he said to 247Sports national analyst Brian Dohn, "I think it is the right choice because of how well they produce receivers and the brotherhood they have over there."

Orange passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach Ross Douglas Sr. visited Middletown on Friday morning. Later that evening, Garrett had verbally committed to the 'Cuse.
"He is a great guy," Garrett said of Douglas in the 247Sports article. "We clicked ever since I first met him, and he knows how to develop receivers."
