Over the past few days, Syracuse basketball 2026 priority target Deron Rippey Jr. from Brooklyn, N.Y., was overseas in Italy at a showcase event put on by Adidas. And according to analysts and scouts, the five-star point guard didn't disappoint.
In fact, the 6-foot-2 Rippey put forth several impressive performances, according to posts on X. Rippey was among those top-flight prospects competing at the 2025 Adidas Eurocamp, which ran from May 31 to June 2 in Treviso, Italy.
Rippey, a top-20 national prospect and a top-five point guard in his cycle, competed for Team 3SSB Select, which went 3-0 at this event and won the 2025 Adidas Eurocamp championship on Monday.
In the title game, Rippey tallied eight points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals, although he struggled with his shot some. On Sunday, he collected 16 points, five assists, two rebounds and three steals while making 7-of-10 from the field.
A day earlier, last Saturday, Rippey had 12 points, eight assists, one rebound and four steals while going 5-of-9 from the field.
Syracuse basketball faces steep competition for 2026 five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr.
Rippey, an excellent student, is a standout rising senior at the Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J. On the AAU circuit this spring, he has played at a high level for the 17U team of the New York-based New Heights in the Adidas 3SSB league.
The Orange staff, led by assistant coach Allen Griffin, offered a scholarship to Rippey in late August of 2023. The following February, on Jim Boeheim Day, Rippey unofficially visited Syracuse basketball.
He is one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2026 class, currently holding more than 30 offers from a range of high-major programs. Since offering Rippey, Griffin, assistant coach Brenden Straughn and general manager Alex Kline have watched the New York product on numerous occasions in various settings.
In mid-May, amid an NCAA-permitted live period on the AAU circuit, Griffin was in attendance for Rippey as the 3SSB league held a session in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Last month, in an interview that he conducted with top writer Sam Lance on zagsblog.com, Rippey said regarding his 2024 trip to the Hill, "Syracuse was great man. The stadium is beautiful. It’s a good group of guys up there. They’re always in the gym. I think what’s so special about them is they’ve also been really consistent with me. And there’s a relationship there with most of the coaches and my dad. They grew up playing together. So I’m definitely going to look into Syracuse a little bit more and see what they have to offer."
To that end, while nothing has been finalized, Rippey's dad, all-around great guy Deron Rippey Sr., told me via text message in recent days that his son will go on an official visit to the 'Cuse program at some point.
Deron Rippey Jr., one of the Orange's top targets in the 2026 class, is supremely athletic. Check out this post on X.
In an evaluation posted last month, 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein said in part that Rippey has "got the athleticism to make momentum changing plays at any given point, both rising up at the rim or turning on the jets. Rippey has always been a two-way guard, who impacts the game as much on the defensive end as he does the offensive end."
