Koy Beasley, a 2024 four-star defensive back from Ohio who took an official visit to Syracuse football over the weekend, said in an interview that his trip to the ‘Cuse went better than he expected.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Beasley, listed as either a cornerback or a safety by the primary recruiting services, is a senior at La Salle High School in Cincinnati.

He verbally committed to Big Ten Conference member Purdue in June. On Sunday, he said via his X page that he had received a scholarship offer from the new Syracuse football coaching staff.

Besides the Boilermakers and the Orange, Beasley’s full offer sheet also includes college squads such as Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Boston College, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan State, Texas A&M, Southern California, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and many others.

New ‘Cuse head coach Fran Brown was most recently the defensive backs coach at Georgia. Additionally, the Orange’s new defensive coordinator will be Elijah Robinson, who is currently serving as the interim head coach and co-defensive coordinator at Texas A&M.

Syracuse football is trying to flip 2024 four-star defensive back Koy Beasley.

Top national analyst Steve Wiltfong, the director of recruiting for 247Sports, wrote in a piece on Sunday that Beasley is “now thinking hard about the Orange.”

"In the wake of his official visit to the ‘Cuse, Beasley said in part to Wiltfong, “What impresses me is really the hype that’s being built around the program and the opportunity to be coached by Coach Fran and opportunity to play.”"

All of the primary recruiting services rank Beasley as a top-200 national prospect in the senior cycle, and the vast majority of recruiting Web sites deem him as a top-150 overall player in the 2024 class.

On3, at present, is the most bullish on Beasley, placing him at No. 101 nationally, No. 16 at cornerback and No. 5 in Ohio within the 2024 cycle. At the time of this writing, both of the industry-generated rating systems, the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Industry Ranking, had Beasley in the top 125 overall, the top 20 at his position and the top six in Ohio.

"In discussing his official visit to the Orange with SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister, Beasley said in part, “After the visit, it really changed. I didn’t expect it go this well. Syracuse, we’ll see down the line after coach Fran visits. We’ll see what goes on from there. Really no other plans. I’m not taking any other visits. We’ll see on signing day.”"

I’ll continue to monitor Beasley’s recruitment. In reading various comments from national pundits and recruiting analysts, it does appear that the ‘Cuse has a shot to flip him. But by no means whatsoever is it a guarantee that Beasley will de-commit from Purdue and then verbally pledge to Syracuse football.
