Syracuse Football: Top-40 quarterback in senior class to officially visit SU
By Neil Adler
Whit Muschamp from Tennessee, who is a three-star prospect and a top-40 quarterback in the 2024 class, plans to officially visit Syracuse football this weekend, per a media report.
SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister, in an article on various high school players expected to make trips to the Hill in the coming days, noted that the 6-foot-1, 170-pound Muschamp plans to take an official visit to the Orange this weekend.
As I’ve noted in several columns of late, I’m counting at least eight prospects in the 2024 cycle, if not more, who are eyeing visits to Central New York this coming weekend. Those developments are amid New Jersey native Fran Brown being officially introduced by SU Athletics as the new Syracuse football head coach this past Monday.
Muschamp, a talented pro-style quarterback, said via his X page on December 4 that he had landed a scholarship offer from Brown and the Orange coaching staff. In March, Muschamp verbally committed to Southeastern Conference school Vanderbilt.
It’s worth pointing out that Brown, most recently, served as the defensive backs coach at SEC powerhouse Georgia. Additionally, the new ‘Cuse defensive coordinator will be Elijah Robinson, who presently is co-defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Texas A&M, another SEC member.
Syracuse football is hosting 2024 three-star QB Whit Muschamp on an official visit.
Muschamp, a standout senior at the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tenn., is the son of Will Muschamp. His dad is co-defensive coordinator at Georgia and previously served as the head coach of fellow SEC teams Florida and South Carolina.
According to recruiting services, Whit Muschamp holds nearly 20 offers from a range of high-major programs, such as Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis, Missouri, Ole Miss and Virginia, among others.
When I wrote this article on Thursday, he was in the national rankings from both the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking.
Rivals.com places Muschamp as the No. 31 quarterback and the No. 31 player out of Tennessee within the 2024 class. ESPN has him at No. 40 at his position and No. 28 in Tennessee. Over at 247Sports, Muschamp is rated No. 54 at quarterback and No. 29 in his state.
It will be quite a busy upcoming weekend at ‘Cuse with all of these highly rated players taking official visits to the SU campus. It’s also extremely exciting to me, although prospects taking visits isn’t the same thing as prospects making commitments.
Besides Muschamp, those expected to officially visit Syracuse football this weekend include 2024 four-star running back Yasin Willis from New Jersey, 2024 four-star defensive back Koy Beasley from Ohio, 2024 four-star defensive back Josh Philostin from Florida, 2024 four-star cornerback Marcellus Barnes Jr. from Tennessee, 2024 four-star wide receiver Jaylan Hornsby from New Jersey, 2024 four-star edge KingJoseph Edwards from Georgia, and 2024 four-star wide receiver Emanuel Ross from New Jersey.
This is undeniably awesome, and I look forward to seeing how the Orange officials went for these 2024 players.
