Syracuse football sophomore running back LeQuint Allen Jr., who faced some adversity prior to the 2023 season commencing, has put forth a terrific current term where he’s rushed for more than 1,000 yards, leading him to receive All-ACC honors, along with several other Orange players.
The Atlantic Coast Conference, on Tuesday, disclosed its various All-ACC teams. Making the All-ACC second squad are Allen and junior linebacker Marlowe Wax Jr.
Redshirt sophomore punter Jack Stonehouse is on the All-ACC third unit. Picking up All-ACC honorable-mention nods are Allen as an all-purpose player, junior defensive back Justin Barron and redshirt senior offensive lineman Christopher Bleich.
First and foremost, a huge congratulations from Orange Nation to these Syracuse football players on their much-deserved All-ACC honors. Just fabulous.
The ‘Cuse (6-6, 2-6 in the ACC) will find out this Sunday what bowl game it is playing in, as the Orange has reached post-season bowl eligibility for the second year in a row. Oh, and as you might have heard, the ‘Cuse also has a new head coach.
Multiple Syracuse football players have made All-ACC teams.
I’m really happy for Allen, who had been issued a season-long suspension by Syracuse University for his involvement in an on-campus fight last December. The matter was resolved, and Allen was able to play in 2023.
All he’s done so far is carry the ball 225 times for 1,062 yards and nine rushing scores. When I wrote this article, Allen was No. 3 within the ACC in rushing yards per game. He’s also proven a solid receiver, hauling in 36 catches for 197 yards and one receiving touchdown.
Wax has been excellent in the present campaign. His 101 total tackles place him at No. 5 in the ACC. He’s No. 1 in the league in fumbles forced, while Wax is in the top 15 of the conference in tackles for a loss and in the top 25 in sacks.
To date in the 2023 season, Stonehouse has made 52 punts, with a long of 64 yards and a solid 15 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard-line. His punting average of 46.5 yards is currently No. 2 in the ACC.
Barron has proven, by and large, a steady presence in the Syracuse football secondary during the 2023 stanza. Within the ACC, he’s in the top 15 in total tackles, the top 25 in passes defended (a combination of interceptions and pass break-ups), and the top five with three forced fumbles. He also has one fumble return.
