827. . . . Scott Shafer. 2. player

When Scott Shafer took over Syracuse in 2013, the school was transitioning to the ACC and was far removed from national prominence. Shafer did what he could to drag the program further and further away from the glory years.

Doug Marone had the team at 8-5 in 2012 and jumped to the NFL as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills. Marone did not succeed in Buffalo and Shafer wasn’t much better at Syracuse.

In his three years as head coach, one more than Marone’s tenure in Buffalo, Shafer went 14-23 and 7-17 in his last two seasons. The Orange went 7-6 in 2013 with a lot of the talent that Marone brought to Syracuse still on the roster, but then things really fell apart.

Shafer only has one decent season on his resume and it wasn’t even his doing, but that’s still a better tenure than Greg Robinson’s.
