Syracuse Basketball: Many future foes residing in first set of top-25 polls

The first top-25 polls since the 2023-24 regular season got underway were released on Monday, and Syracuse basketball didn’t receive a vote in either the Associated Press or the Coaches poll.

That’s all good. The Orange (2-0), with home wins to date over Canisius and New Hampshire, has plenty of opportunities coming up in the near term to notch victories over high-quality opponents and make a case for a top-25 ranking.

First up this week, the ‘Cuse will host Patriot League powerhouse Colgate on Tuesday, Nov. 14, and the Raiders have defeated Syracuse basketball on two straight occasions. After that, the Orange will head to the 2023 Maui Jim Maui Invitational, where it will face two and possibly three top-25 squads in this prestigious early season tournament.

Arguably the biggest shocker so far came when James Madison knocked off top-five Michigan State last week, on the road. The Dukes, this week, are No. 24 in the AP poll, which is totally awesome.

In what I found to be the best game so far of the young 2023-24 season, last Friday evening, Arizona squeaked past Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium in a fun battle of preseason top-15 groups.
