Syracuse football coaches have officially entered the recruitment of one of the top signal-callers across the country in the 2025 class.

In recent days, four-star quarterback Malik Washington from Maryland said in a post on X that he picked up a scholarship offer from the Orange coaching staff.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Washington, who has seen his full offer list grow to nearly 20 schools, is a top-250 national prospect, a top-15 pro-style quarterback, and a top-10 prospect in Maryland within his class, per multiple recruiting Web sites.

Washington is a standout junior at Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, Md. Per media reports and his bio on the 247Sports Web site, he also shines on the basketball court for Archbishop Spalding.

Syracuse football recently offered a scholarship to 2025 four-star QB Malik Washington.

Besides Syracuse football, according to recruiting services, Washington holds scholarship offers from college squads such as Boston College, Duke, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Arkansas, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, James Madison, Marshall, Temple, Toledo and Western Michigan, among others.

As a sophomore during the 2022 season, it was Washington’s first season as the starting quarterback for Archbishop Spalding, and he was stellar. Per 247Sports, he helped lead Archbishop Spalding to an 11-1 record and a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association conference title.

In 2022, Washington threw for 2,979 yards and 29 touchdowns, against just eight interceptions. He also ran the ball 33 times for 167 yards and four scores on the ground. If you’d like to track Malik’s performances during the current 2023 stanza for Archbishop Spalding, you can do so via the MaxPreps Web site.

According to 247Sports, as a sophomore for the Archbishop Spalding basketball team in the 2022-23 term, Washington averaged 17 points and nine rebounds per contest, earning all-conference honors along the way.

I would imagine that Washington’s football recruiting process likely has a way to go, and he’s sure to land many more impressive offers. Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers and his staff will face tough competition to prevail here, but I’m glad to see that the Orange is giving it a shot in Washington’s recruitment.

When I wrote this column, Washington was ranked No. 251 overall, No. 19 at quarterback and No. 7 in Maryland within the 2025 cycle, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. On3 has him at No. 199 nationally, No. 14 at quarterback and No. 6 in Maryland, while ESPN places Washington at No. 236 nationwide, No. 13 at QB and No. 9 in Maryland.

I’ll continue to follow his recruiting process moving forward, and I hope that the ‘Cuse emerges as a viable contender for Washington.
