Syracuse football 4-star commits just miss the cut in new national rankings
By Neil Adler
Recruiting service On3 recently updated its national rankings of the top-300 prospects in the 2024 class, and two Syracuse football four-star commits fell just outside of these ratings.
The Orange pledges who we are discussing here are wide receiver/tight end Jamie Tremble and dual-threat quarterback Jakhari Williams, both of whom hail from Georgia.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Tremble verbally committed to Syracuse football in mid-June, while the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Williams gave a verbal pledge to the ‘Cuse in late June.
It appears that both Tremble and Williams reside close to the top 300, per On3. The No. 300 player, for example, was given a grade of 90 on the On3 Web site. Tremble and Williams, too, have grades of 90 from On3.
Jamie Tremble and Jakhari Williams highlight a top-50 2024 class for Syracuse football.
Tremble, recently designated as a freak athlete by 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins, is a senior at The Wesleyan School in Peachtree Corners, Ga.
Williams, meanwhile, attends the First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Ga. Both of their senior terms are underway, and you can check out some of their stats during the 2023 season via the MaxPreps Web site.
While not in the On3 top 300 nationally, that recruiting service does rate Williams as the No. 22 quarterback and the No. 37 player in Georgia within the 2024 cycle. Tremble is ranked No. 21 at tight end and No. 39 in Georgia.
At the time of this writing, the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking placed Williams at No. 643 nationally, No. 40 at quarterback and No. 73 in Georgia. ESPN, though, rates him as the No. 13 dual-threat quarterback nationwide in his class.
Per the On3 Industry Ranking, Tremble is No. 312 overall, No. 21 at tight end and No. 35 in Georgia.
At this juncture, 247Sports is higher on Tremble, putting him at No. 236 nationally, No. 15 at tight end and No. 29 in Georgia. He’s also in the top-400 nationwide, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
Via the 247Sports Composite, when I wrote this column, Williams arrived at No. 627 overall, No. 40 at quarterback and No. 73 in Georgia.
As I’ve said on many, many occasions, these sorts of recruiting rankings are subjective. Just because Tremble and Williams didn’t make the On3 top 300, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t talented players. Because they are.
In fact, they are two of the highest-rated commits for Syracuse football in its 2024 cycle. Presently, the Orange has 17 verbal commitments in the senior class. Both the 247Sports Composite and Rivals.com currently rank the Syracuse football 2024 cycle within the top 50 around the country.
