Maurice Williams Jr., a talented and vastly underrated 2024 quarterback from New Jersey who is receiving interest from Syracuse football, will take an unofficial visit to the Hill this weekend.
The 6-foot, 194-pound Williams, a standout at Orange High School in Orange, N.J., will be in attendance when the ‘Cuse hosts fellow Empire State squad Army beginning at noon on Saturday, Sept. 23.
While Williams has made several other trips to the Orange campus, he recently told recruiting analyst Charles Kang of The Juice Online that this Saturday will be the first ‘Cuse game he is going to, and he’s excited to watch Syracuse football inside the JMA Wireless Dome.
Williams is high on the ‘Cuse. I’ve been told that he has been in frequent contact of late with Orange tight ends coach Nunzio Campanile, who has deep ties throughout the state of New Jersey.
Syracuse football is showing interest in 2024 quarterback Maurice Williams Jr.
Orange High School, so far in the 2023 season, is 3-1, according to media outlets. Per his bio on NJ.com, Williams is completing about 60 percent of his pass attempts. In total so far this term, he has 1,139 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
The dual-threat quarterback has also rushed 26 times for 250 yards and three scores on the ground. In early September, he set a school record by totaling seven touchdowns in one game – six passing touchdowns and one rushing TD.
According to recruiting services, Williams holds scholarship offers from Temple and Long Island University.
Per his bios on the 247Sports Web site, Rivals.com and the On3 Web site, Williams has garnered interest from numerous other college squads, such as Syracuse football, Rutgers, Penn State, Notre Dame, Maryland and Boston College, among others.
The ‘Cuse does a verbal commitment from a 2024 quarterback, as four-star Jakhari Williams with the First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Ga., verbally committed to Syracuse football in late June. That being said, I’d love to see the ‘Cuse make an offer to Maurice Williams Jr.
Per The Juice Online, several other high-school prospects are planning to visit the Orange for the upcoming Army game. Those players include 2026 quarterback Gavin Marshalek of Mount Carmel Area High School in Mount Carmel, Pa., and 2025 offensive lineman Chris Vigna of Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J.
