After successfully defeating the Purdue Boilermakers 35-20 at Purdue Saturday night, the Syracuse football team heads back to the JMA Wireless Dome to play Army. Kickoff is scheduled to be around noon this Saturday and they will honor veteran and former Syracuse football head coach Ben Schwartzwalder.

And as the tweet above mentions, this game will be a white out asking all fans in attendance to wear a white shirt. Hat tip to the student section for doing this. So why a white out instead of an Orange out? Well, first I’ll let Otto’s Army explain the significance of it themselves.

Second, I’m not sure if you’ve seen them do a white out, but it’s a really cool visual seeing the Dome like that. It also adds fun and enthusiasm to the environment. Let’s face it, we need fans to attend so I support any measure that brings the fans and the fun.

And lastly, why not an Orange out since we are the Orange? I used to wonder this myself as I am full-on embracing the Orange. My social media name is OrangeChuck, I’ve owned two Orange cars, half my wardrobe is Orange and I think it’s the most beautiful color God gave us.

The Saturday forecast calls for a Syracuse football “white out.”

Having said that, one week later at noon is an Orange Out as your Syracuse football team will face Clemson in the Dome so you still get that Orange Out you want…and it’s on ABC.

Look, I love Orange! I love that it’s our name and want it embraced more myself. But I also think we need to get creative here sometimes. It’s not going to hurt to occasionally try something that might bring a great visual and fan interest to the game.

If it’ll pack the Dome, I don’t care if they wear polka dot, do the wave and the Hokey Pokey after a touchdown…we need a fun, friendly environment more than anything.

You want wins and four/five-star recruits? Yes winning helps but so does showing them that if they come to the Dome, the fans are fun, electric and care. Complaining about that it’s not orange is counterproductive and also is something in this day and age these recruits see here too.

And this is coming from a guy who would love an Orange field and/or seats but understands that it might not be possible and would rather concentrate on what helps the program not hurts it.

So please wear white for the Army game this Saturday at noon and Orange next Saturday for the Syracuse football homecoming game against Clemson. Support the initiatives and the program and understand that it’s okay to try new things, especially for special occasions. Embrace it and let’s show everyone how intimidating the JMA Wireless Dome can be when we work together to support our team.
