Syracuse football misses out on 3-star QB/athlete who had ‘Cuse in top 3
By Neil Adler
Andy Bass, a three-star quarterback/athlete in the 2024 class from Oklahoma who had Syracuse football in his final three, did not choose the ‘Cuse when he made his commitment announcement on Thursday.
The 6-foot, 200-pound Bass, a star rising senior for Heritage Hall in Oklahoma City, said in a YouTube video that he is verbally committing to Big 12 Conference powerhouse Oklahoma, which in the future is moving to the Southeastern Conference, along with fellow Big 12 squad Texas.
Bass, rated three stars by several recruiting services, had a final three of Oklahoma, Syracuse football and another Big 12 team, Kansas State.
His verbal commitment to the Sooners didn’t come as much of a surprise to me. Leading up to his college decision on Thursday, I counted at least seven predictions in the direction of Oklahoma for Bass between the 247Sports Web site, Rivals.com and the On3 Web site.
Syracuse football didn’t prevail for 2024 three-star QB/athlete Andy Bass.
The Orange coaching staff offered a scholarship to Bass in late May, and he took an official visit to the Hill in June. He has spoken highly of the Syracuse football program, and in June, the Orange actually picked up a prediction in its favor for Bass on Rivals.com.
However, lately, all of the analyst buzz pointed to the Sooners in his recruitment. In total, he has secured nearly 20 scholarship offers from a range of high-major programs, including numerous elite academic institutions.
Besides Syracuse football, his offer sheet has included Oklahoma, Kansas State, Kansas, Princeton, Air Force, Army, UConn, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Kent State, Navy, New Mexico State, North Texas, Penn, UNLV and Yale.
Bass was sensational as a junior in the 2022 campaign for Heritage Hall, helping guide his squad to a 13-1 overall record and the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (“OSSAA”) Class 3A state title.
According to his bio on the MaxPreps Web site, in 2022, Bass threw for 2,833 yards with 28 touchdowns against only eight interceptions, while completing 62.7 percent of his pass attempts. He also rushed 125 times for 970 rushing yards and scored 17 touchdowns on the ground.
To date, Syracuse football has 17 verbal commitments in its 2024 cycle, which is rated just inside the top 50 nationally, per some recruiting Web sites. The Orange has a verbal pledge from four-star quarterback Jakhari Williams.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Williams, who is a standout at the First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Ga., verbally committed to the ‘Cuse in late June.
Best of luck to Andy at Oklahoma!
