We are only a couple of weeks away from the start of the college football season, and for Syracuse football fans, that’s September 2nd.

I’ve been doing this now for two years and going into my third season writing here, I’ve tried different things leading up to it. This year I’m going to avoid predicting anything because I believe in this team and think they can win every game. I’ll also avoid breaking down the schedule game by game only because I don’t truly have time to do much research on the opposing teams.

But I will be trying new ideas over the next couple of weeks as my schedule allows. I’m starting with a fun post about some random facts and information that I do know about it. I will spare you my post about why I think they’re going to win every game but will still post only positivity leading up until the ball kicketh off.

So here are some random things that I think are fun to know going into the season starting with a fun fact about our first opponent and fellow CNY university Colgate on September 2nd at the JMA Wireless Dome.

Let’s review some key notes ahead of the Syracuse football 2023 season.

– Did you know that Colgate plays in the Patriot League for football? The same league Georgetown plays in and beat Georgetown last season, 34-24. Bless them for doing such good work.

– It’s August, but we do know already that a few games are scheduled for some cool prime time slots. As of now, Syracuse football at Purdue is slated to be on NBC on September 16th at 7:30 pm. Then on Thursday, October 26th, Syracuse is at Virginia Tech at 7:30 pm on ESPN. And then Syracuse has Boston College in the Dome on Friday, November 3rd, on ESPN2.

– In 1923, Syracuse football beat Pittsburgh, 3-0. One-hundred years and a month later, on November 11th at 3:30 pm, they’ll commemorate the event with a rematch at the location of the original game, Yankee Stadium. I get the frustration over losing a home game in the JMA Wireless Dome and football games in there seem to have field issues at times but it’s still cool to think about.

– Have kids? Check out the Otto Kid’s Club. It’s a really fun thing for kids 12 and under for only $25 a kid. They’ll get a ticket to the Wake Forest game plus a couple of men’s basketball games, a free pass to the other sports plus some cool free stuff and contests.

– I spent four years in the Army and came from a military family so I love that the ‘Cuse is playing them. I will still root for the Orange but for every other game of the season, I’m an Army fan. Before Syracuse left the Big East, I remember ranting continuously that they should have added the service schools. Then again I said the same thing about them adding Penn State back in the day and I truly believe it would have been a catalyst for the Big East being amongst the power 5-6 conferences had they kept them and convinced others like Miami and West Virginia to stay too.

– Syracuse football has brought in a new addition to the secondary. Former Nebraska safety Myles Farmer has transferred to Syracuse and is already enrolled and a part of the team. As we shared, Myles Farmer did leave Nebraska after having a couple of issues but I not only believe in second chances but also believe Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers knows what he’s doing and believes he can contribute and grow as well.

– Did you know former Syracuse defensive lineman Kendall Coleman will be working with the defense this season? Coleman spent the last two seasons as a grad assistant working with the offense. But in 2023, he’s back home on the defensive side and I can’t help but think he’ll be a great addition especially if he can be as effective as he was as a player. I was a huge fan of Coleman and am happy to see him still a part of this program.

– And last but not least, I’m going to leave you with a video tweet courtesy of the official Syracuse football Twitter account that includes one of the sickest catches by WR Kendall Long that if it happened during the season, you’d be talking about it at work on Monday.
