Syracuse football on Sunday picked up a verbal commitment from one of the top quarterbacks around the country in the 2024 class.

Four-star Jakhari Williams, a talented dual-threat quarterback in the rising-senior cycle, said via Twitter that he has pledged to the Orange. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Williams attends First Presbyterian Day School, a prep school located in Macon, Ga.

Last November, Williams verbally committed to fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad Georgia Tech. This past May, he de-committed from the Yellow Jackets and reopened his recruitment.

Earlier this month, media reports and social media posts said that Williams had a top five of Boston College, the ‘Cuse, Florida Atlantic, Western Kentucky and James Madison.

Syracuse football has landed a commitment from 2024 four-star QB Jakhari Williams.

Williams recently took an official visit to the Hill, and reports said that trip went quite well. He picked the Orange over scholarship offers from teams such as Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky, Liberty, UCF, Kansas, Florida Atlantic, James Madison and others.

According to the 247Sports Web site, as a junior during the 2022 season for First Presbyterian, Williams completed nearly 60 percent of his passes for 2,384 yards with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

As a dual-threat quarterback, Williams also ran 171 times for 1,018 yards and 14 scores on the ground.

When I penned this column on Sunday night, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rated him as four stars, No. 330 nationally, No. 16 at his position and No. 41 in Georgia.

The On3 Industry Ranking, at the time of this writing, ranked Williams as four stars, No. 358 overall, No. 21 at quarterback and No. 43 in Georgia. He is No. 15 at his position, according to ESPN.

On3, meanwhile, has Williams at No. 179 nationwide, No. 11 at quarterback and No. 24 in Georgia. Needless to say, this is an impressive pick-up for Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers and his coaching staff.

In recent weeks, the Orange has received verbal commitments from numerous other three-star and four-star prospects in the 2024 cycle. Those commitments include three-star quarterback Brendan Zurbrugg out of Alliance High School in Alliance, Ohio.
