Syracuse Basketball: Soaring 4-star PG eyes 5 official visits, including SU
By Neil Adler
Look for Syracuse basketball to likely get an official visit from fast-rising 2024 four-star point guard Mikey Lewis in the near future.
The 6-foot-3 Lewis, who recently vaulted into the top 60 overall of his class, received a scholarship offer from Orange assistant coach Brenden Straughn in late April.
Lewis, this spring in grassroots basketball, has proven stellar. During the Nike EYBL league’s regular season that ended in late May, Lewis averaged 18.1 points per game for the Oakland, Calif.-based Oakland Soldiers (17U). He was a top-15 overall scorer on the EYBL regular-season circuit.
In a recent interview with On3 national analyst Jamie Shaw, Lewis said that he plans to set up and take some official visits “real soon.” He mentioned St. Mary’s, LSU, Illinois, Syracuse basketball and San Diego State, which was the runner-up in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
Syracuse basketball is expected to welcome 2024 four-star PG Mikey Lewis on an official visit soon.
Besides the Orange, Lewis’ offer sheet includes Wichita State, St. Mary’s, LSU, California, TCU, Providence, Arizona State, Colorado State, Illinois, Washington State, San Diego State and Wyoming, among others.
In his chat with On3, Lewis said of Syracuse basketball, “I really like Coach (Brendan) Straughn, we have a lot of people in common, and they all really like him, and I trust their word. He knows basketball, and I like that. I also like they’ve stayed in consistent contact with me, even with the coaching change.”
In a recent article from 247Sports national analyst Dushawn London, Lewis said that he’s eyeing a commitment announcement “around November.”
As a junior during the 2022-23 season, Lewis performed at a high level for Accelerated Prep in Lakewood, Colo. However, as I noted in a column not too long ago, Lewis has decided to transfer to the powerhouse Prolific Prep in Napa Valley, Calif.
Prolific Prep was a top-10 national team in 2022-23 and played in the prestigious GEICO Nationals earlier this spring. It is expected to be a preseason top-10 squad ahead of 2023-24, when Lewis will be a senior.
Ever since the ‘Cuse offered Lewis in late April, he has said in numerous interviews that the Orange coaching staff is in consistent communication with him. Lewis definitely appears to be one of the top targets for Syracuse basketball in the rising-senior cycle.
To date, four-star power forward Donnie Freeman and four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore have verbally committed to the ‘Cuse in the 2024 class. Four-star guard Jalil Bethea and four-star wing Caleb Williams are also priority recruits for the team in this cycle.
