Three-star junior wide receiver Mekhai White from Virginia, who had Syracuse football in his top 15 this past January, trimmed his list of suitors still in the running to eight schools via Twitter.
The Orange didn’t make the cut. Those remaining in contention are powerhouse programs such as Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee and LSU, as well as Maryland, Arkansas and Virginia Tech.
White has proven a highly coveted prospect in the 2024 class, amassing more than 50 scholarship offers throughout his recruitment, according to recruiting Web sites.
Per recruiting services and media reports, White received a scholarship offer from the ‘Cuse coaching staff in April of 2022.
Syracuse football didn’t make the top eight for 2024 three-star wide receiver Mekhai White.
White is a standout for King George High School in King George, Va. According to his bio on the 247Sports Web site, in the 2022 season for King George, as a junior, White hauled in 37 catches for 1,039 receiving yards and an impressive 18 touchdowns.
At this juncture, Michigan is receiving a good amount of analyst buzz in White’s recruiting process on the 247Sports Web site, Rivals.com and the On3 Web site.
Besides Syracuse football and those teams in his top eight, White’s offer sheet has also included two-time defending national champion Georgia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, Arizona State, Nebraska, Auburn, Boston College, UConn, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh and Texas A&M, among others.
When I penned this column, the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rated him at No. 530 nationally, while the industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking had White at No. 488 overall within the 2024 class.
Numerous recruiting services rank White as a top-100 wide receiver in the junior cycle.
Not too long ago, 2024 four-star wide receiver Jason Robinson from California put Syracuse football in his top 10. It was also disclosed on Twitter that the 5-foot-11, 160-pound Robinson will take an official visit to the Hill on June 9.
Robinson, a junior at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, Calif., has a top 10 of the Orange, Utah, Notre Dame, Colorado, Florida State, Pittsburgh, California, Penn State, Washington and Southern California.
He plans to officially visit California on June 23 and Utah on August 31. Reports suggest that Robinson is likely to take several more official visits before ultimately making a college decision.
Per both the 247Sports Composite and the On3 Industry Ranking, Robinson is a top-450 national prospect and a top-80 wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
