Syracuse football makes top 10 for 4-star defensive back from New Jersey
By Neil Adler
Syracuse football has made the top 10 for 2024 four-star defensive back Kaj Sanders from New Jersey, he recently said on Twitter.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Sanders, who can suit up at multiple positions in the secondary, says his top 10 consists of the Orange, Notre Dame, Maryland, Rutgers, Penn State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Wisconsin, South Carolina and Miami.
He is a junior at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, N.J., where Sanders also runs track and field.
In the 2022 season, according to MaxPreps, Sanders tallied 18 solo tackles, 22 assisted tackles, 40 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions. He also rushed 32 times for 261 yards and three scores on the ground.

Per Rivals.com, Sanders has received 27 scholarship offers throughout his recruiting process. According to his Twitter page, he landed an offer from the Orange in October of 2021.
Various media reports and recruiting services state that Sanders has plans to officially visit numerous schools in May and June, including Wisconsin, South Carolina, North Carolina, Miami and Penn State.
I think it’s safe to assume that unless Syracuse football scores a visit from Sanders, the ‘Cuse isn’t going to prevail in his recruitment. As I noted in another recent column, beginning on July 1 of this year, high-school players will be allowed by the NCAA to take an unlimited number of official visits.
Reports and recruiting services say that Sanders plans to make a commitment announcement on July 30.
When I penned this column, the On3 recruiting service rated him as four stars, No. 35 at safety and No. 7 in New Jersey within the 2024 cycle.
The industry-generated On3 Industry Ranking placed Sanders as three stars, No. 414 nationally, No. 37 at safety and No. 8 in New Jersey. The industry-generated 247Sports Composite ranked him as three stars, No. 460 overall, No. 43 at safety and No. 9 in New Jersey.
Rivals.com rated Sanders as three stars, the No. 48 cornerback and the No. 7 prospect in New Jersey within the junior class.
I’ll certainly continue to monitor his recruitment, including whether Sanders may end up taking an official visit to the Hill.
